I've had enough of this $50-100 for a "watercooling" radiator, and am going to find myself a nice cross-flow heater core. my custom case doesnt allow for the standard 2x120mm by 120mm dimensions, so im aiming for something a little shorter. 9x6x1" would be ideal, but anything from L:7-10", W:5-7" H:<2" would be fine, but im making it trickier by wanting a cross flow instead of the back and forth pattern.

but im working on finding something less than 2 inches thick. anyone got any useful resources?

Hmm.... Perhaps an oil cooler, but that's all I can think of that's that thin.

well, im working my way thru this excel file, which has quite an extensive list of heatercores: http://www.ocforums.com/archive/index.php/t-325556.html (select "view full version" if you want to dl the file)

its still pretty rough. i was thinking about making a nice little python script to find all the heater cores that are cross flow, but im pretty lazy.
 
In the column next to each heatercore, add:

=IF(CELL_WITH_THICKNESS_DATA < 2", 1, 0)

(of course, CELL_WITH_THICKNESS_DATA, should be the cells with the thickness for that particular row.)

then drag it down the entire list. That should put 1's beside each of the heatercores thinner than 2".

heh, i just sorted my thickness, then all the ones smaller were at the top. anyway, hopefully i can find a good one, im working wiht a custom acrylic 11" cube case- 2 level design. not much room for everything. my biggest problem is the video card going above the motherboard, if it or the rad is too tall, I won't have enough room for a good shroud.
 
Damn. looks like most of the heater cores under 2" are aluminum, of the ones that are copper, the thin ones are more expensive than the regular 2" types. the copper <2" models were mostly toyota and mazda. eventually i scored a mazda rx7 heatercore, 7.125"x5.75"x1.25". couldnt find a thin cross-flow rad, but this has a surface area similar to a 120x240mm watercooling rad(actually, its as if it was a 120x220mm rad, so you double fan people still got some area on me)

anyway, found it for 19 bucks, 12 dollars shipping. anyone need an rx7 heater core box/vent? oh, and they usually cost over $100, same with the toyota thin cores.

its rough when trying to accommodate cost, performance, size, and quietness all at the same time.
 
I don't understand why you didn't pick up a BIP from dangerdenstore, or a used one from around here... Probably cheaper.

my case is an 11" cube. that leaves 10.5" inside, so I either would need to go for a 120x120 rad, or I need to find a irregular sized heater core. next, thanks to 3D modeling, i know that a 2" heater core would be quite difficult to fit, plus a shroud, and a 120x25mm fan above the motherboard, with a pump, power supply, thin DVD, and hard drive below the motherboard.

yes, there are lots of easier ways i could do this, but this is kinda a convergence of all traits that i want in a computer.

You can easily fit 2x 2.120mm radiators in an 11.5" cube... if the mobo is 9" wide, you've got 2" on one side of it, easily. A BIP and a 25mm yate loon fan = 2", which leaves you with 0.5" of clearance between the board and the top level radiator...

Then, mount another similar rad right under it in the bottom compartment, along with the PSU, Pump, and 3x HD's

I has no pics though, sorry... They were lost in the great HD crash of 2005.
