Heat sink question

High so i'm using the cogage true spirit heat sink for my intel i7 920. I have the heat sink placed horizontally rather than vertically. I was wondering if this was a bad thing and i should change it. Will this affect my cooling performance at all? I'm using an antec 1200 case.

If you also flip that rear exaust fan around so it blows nice cool ambient room air in onto the heatsink from the side, my unofficial, undocumented, unscientific, unverified, informal, quick and dirty testing gave better results at both load and idle than the more conventional mounting. Which taken that heat tends to rise and the farking huge ass fan up top, was not difficult to believe. If I recall both front fans were on low and mounted in the lower position and there was also a 120mm side fan (customer went all out on fans). Big fan on medium speed.

Cant really hurt either way, play around if you like and see what happens.

If I build another with that case it will be mounted vertical from the start.

Put the fan on the other side of the HS so it is blowing UP and not pushing DOWN.

I have seen it recommend that the heat sink be mounted so that the heat pipes are parallel to the PCI slots as this puts them crossing the cores at a 90deg angle, putting more of the heat pipes in touch with the cores.
