Heaksink compare?

Of the two, I'd take the megahalems.

If you're open to others, then consider the Thermalright Venomous-X. Those 2 are similarly sized.

The H50 doesn't perform as well as these 2 heatsinks, but some people like it because it's compact and it makes them feel as though they are watercooling...or something like that...

I agree, dont like the Thermaltake Frio, I can take any old HS and strap two loud ass 2500 rpm fans to it and it will give decent temps.

Wow, thats....snide. It is watercooling, just for us idiots who don't want to screw with it. In a push-pull setup an H50 takes up less space, or at least frees up the area around the CPU and RAM and cools just as well if not better with comparable fans. It's a great way to go even if you can't get one on sale. I switched to one from a TRUE mostly to free up the area around my CPU.
 
In reference to the Corsair H50: meh... I didn't mean it to be so insulting. I've read several comments from people stating almost exactly that, "it makes [them] feel as though they are watercooling." - So I was merely making a reference to that common remark. I guess I should have used some sort of emoticon... how about this one: :p - I don't like that one... I guess that's why I didn't use it.

I did mention that it was compact - that's certainly its strongest point. Its performance is a notch below the larger heatsinks mentioned in this thread, but it'll still take an i7 to 4Ghz. I wish there were an "H60" 140mm version - I think it'd be great.

That Noctua NH-D14 heatsink is humongous, but it, along with the Cogage Arrow, are at the top of the air-cooling chain. The stock fans on the Noctua are, sadly, not so great for pushing air through a heatsink. In the SilentPCReview article on the NH-D14, they achieved better performance with Nexus (~1000 RPM Yate Loons) fans (even for the same noise level). Those are essentially $4 fans...

BTW: Newegg doesn't have the best prices on heatsinks. SVC, sidewinder, jabtech are all good stores... not sure where you'll find the best price though.
 
I did a lot of research and ended up going with the venomous x. I ahve an x58 ud3r though, and needed all 6 ram slots, so the megahalems and noctua were out.

Excellent choice. Better than the H50 IMHO.

So you went from phase change to water? Snide as it may be...you dont call the TRUE a phase change setup, even though thats how it cools.
 
i like the TRUE because its the smallest of the big boys

you can often fit a fan on both sides and still have room to plug in your ram/atx CPU power, most of the other coolers are at least a bit thicker
