For those of you interested, the HDMI Licensing Group has made the 3D portion of the HDMI specification version 1.4 available to the general public. Thanks to Martin L. for the linkage.

”The HDMI Consortium recognizes the importance of standardized 3D formats for movies, gaming and broadcast content and the need for non-adopter companies and organizations to have access to that portion of the HDMI Specification,” says Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC. “As the mainstream adoption of 3D is gaining momentum and content providers define and expand their 3D roadmaps, HDMI is ready to support this major market development.”

Oh, oh. I wonder how much the new Monster cable is going to cost?

1.4 BILLLLLIONS DOLLARS MUAH HAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHA

seriously my 3$ hdmi cable > monster.

Personally, I wish they would quit changing the damn spec.

Haha. Just to be clear I'm not saying 3-d is something that is a good reason to change the spec, but that changes to spec are usually good and don't mean that your old cables don't work. Now announcing a new spec is a pain the butt.

You won't really need to do anything unless you want the 3D nonsense. Even if you're still running HDMI 1.0, you're still in pretty good shape as far as I'm concerned.

There are cables now that meet the 1.4 spech. You won't necessarily have to buy all new cables just for HDMI 1.4.

I wonder how much 3D glasses cost?

Oh wait, I bet I can rob some little kid of his red and blue ones!

Red and Blue glasses are for a different 3D technology, that is not the technology being used in the new Blu-Ray 3D spech.

Does this mean that HDMI will consistently work like good ole DVI and VGA? Also does this mean that HDMI connectors will stop breaking? I hope displayport is better than HDMI.

When will HDMI 1.4 devices be released? Does anyone remember when HDMI 1.3 was certified? I know HDMI 1.3 devices started selling Summer 2007.
