I need to connect my gaming rig to an LCD (Dell U2311). The sole DVI input on the LCD is already connected to another computer. That leaves a Display Port and a VGA open on the LCD. The 460GTX in my game box has an open DVI and an open mini HDMI. Which would give me better quality for gaming
mini HDMI ---> Display Port
or
DVI ---> Display Port

Or does it even make a difference?

(pc)DVI-->VGA(lcd)

is the only config I will know of working. I know of DP-->DVI adaptors, but not DVI-->DP adaptors.

Your GPU should of come with at least one DVI-->VGA adaptor, so use that, instead (need VGA cable - perfereably a semi-decent one or better).

I'm not sure, but I'd work on keeping the entire signal digital rather than coverting it twice.

It's not an issue, DACs are decent little ASICs :)

DP-->DVI would require a signal timing generator to be drawn from... somewhere. That's be more tricky then the already well implemented DVI-I/DVI-A's native VGA output (those 4pins and one "bar" on the far edge of the DVI connector? Those are the analoug outputs. Rest of the VGA pins are ground, or something not relevent).

Thanks. I think I've got a VGA cable or two laying around. I'll give that a try, I was under the impresion VGA should be avoided.

VGA just needs more careful adjustment. If the resolution isn't really high you should be able to get a good picture, though this largely depends on the display and videocard's AD/DA converters. For example at work we have a HP Elitebook connected via VGA to some cheapo 24" Samsung TN panel display and it's pretty much impossible to get perfect image quality out of it. By comparison my HP workstation into a 22" Lenovo L220X via VGA is as good as the DVI (connected to my Macbook Pro).
