My old XP computer stopped booting and I think I've narrowed it down to the motherboard. Since its about 4 years old I'm not sure if I'm going to get a replacement or not but I did want some of the data that's on the drive. If I were to take my drive that has XP and all my data on it a put it in my new Vista computer, would I be able to see any of that data? This is kind of a last effort and I have a feeling its not going to work but I figured I would ask all you because you guys probably would know if it would work. Anyone try this before?

Yes, it should work and you should be able to see all the files/folders on the XP drive.
You may have to take ownership of the XP files/folders (right click, properties, etc) but if you had encryption on any of the files, thats a problem.

Alright, I hooked it up and it worked. Now taking ownership seems time consuming. I thought that if I took ownership of a folder it would allow me to access each individual file but that's not the case it seems. To see each file I have to manually go to properties>security..., is there an easier way to do this? I have a ton of files I want to see and move over.

I was able to change permissions of all the files and subdirectories using the command prompt:

icacls "<foldername>" /grant <account name>:F /t

I was able to run that and it worked. Thanks for all the help guys.
