I have( 2) 750 gig WD hhd's.I was thinking that this is my bottleneck. There is a program called Virtual Hard Drive. Its supposed to run 340 times faster than running off your hdd. This has to be great for gaming and fps rates.Does anyone have knowledge of running these virtual drives?

I've never really heard of Virtual Hard Drive before today. This is the closest that I could find, using a quick Google search on the name:

Virtual Hard Drive Pro takes a portion of your system memory and creates a RAM disk drive, which functions like a physical hard drive, only with much better access rates. A RAM disk bypasses the system hard drive, which is the slowest part of a computer. Freeing your data storage and retrieval from this mechanical disk gives your system an immediate boost. Files and applications run up to 340 times faster, making Virtual Hard Drive Pro the program of choice for reducing server load and improving the response time of calculation-intensive software. Move your browser cache folder to a RAM disk to improve the load times of web of pages and multimedia on the Internet. Junk files are automatically deleted when your RAM disk session ends! Virtual Hard Drive Pro supports an unlimited amount of RAM, and works with 64 and 32-bit versions of Windows Vista, Server, and XP.

Am I in the ball park? Nearly every other search result that I found referenced "virtual hard disks," and those are mainly associated with Virtual Machines.

If that is the program in question, it's just a RAMDisk software then. Wouldn't really help with gaming since you'd have to reinstall the game over and over when the RAMDisk session is gone or the PC reboots.

Not true.. The ramdisk image could be written out to the physical drive when the ramdisk is closed (system rebooted) & then reloaded after.. Several linux distro's do this to run from Compact Flash cards & not kill the card (puppy linux, slax & freeNas all have installers for this I belive)

Now as for gaming the problem is that you are going to be very space limited or your taking away from system memory thats being used to play the game..

But does the RAMDisk software in question actually do that?

loading/unloading would add significant time to the boot/shutdown process, btw. not sure if that matters to you, but I find it extremely annoying. :p

what games do you play?
