HDD and DVD drive problems

Hi!

I have a PK5-VM motherboard, with it I have a 160GB Seagate 7200.7 hdd connected as primary, then I have a Pioneer DVD DVR-112D connectes as salve, both PATA. The problem is, whenever I insert a slow speed CD or a scratched but still working CD/DVD, the whole system becomes slow, even wrose, when I insert a CD/DVD that doesn't work the system gets very, very slow, until I pull the drive out.

I have no idea what it could be, some help would be appreciated.

My recommendation: Get either a SATA DVD Drive or Hard Drive.
