so i been having a multitude of problems with this build since ive put it together
I've been stuck on Catalyst Control Center version 11.12, and everytime i update it does not change the version, ive searched google for fixes for about 3 days now and no luck! downloaded from several different websites too

Current Specs:

2x Diamond 7970 3gb on CrossfireX
Z77 Sabertooth MB
i7 2600k 3.4Ghz (OC @ 4.4Ghz)
16gb @ 1600MHz Gskill
SSD 128Gb Mcrucial
HDD 2TB Hitachi 7200rpm
AX850w PSW
NZXT Full-tower case

note: this is a brand new build

i been getting so low FPS is some games and other problems

SKYRIM
45 - 110FPS (single GPU)
5 - 30 in CrossfireX

Crysis
40 - 80 in crossfire

2012 Cities XL
30 - 125FPS (low mininal FPS)

Fallout 3
35 - 80FPS (low minimal FPS)

Company Of Heroes
BSOD on start up

GPU-z
BSOD when i try to access to see info on my second GPU

FO: New Vegas
50 - 90FPS
crashes when i try to access the options for changing graphical settings at the launcher

--------

note: Whenever I validate the integrity of New vegas it says 1 file could not be validated and re-downloads it but never fixes the problems

-------

So far the videos cards have been nothing but a headache to me. spent 950$ on both of them and got a worst performance compared to my old GTX 460 sli build

Is that PSU enough to run 2x 7970s? That could very well be your problem.
From the AMD system requirements. 500W PSU for a system running just 1 card, you might be asking too much from it.

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
500W (or greater) power supply with one 150W 8-pin PCI Express power connector and one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended.
Certified power supplies are recommended. Refer to http://ati.amd.com/certifiedPSU for a list of Certified products
Minimum 4GB of system memory
8GB (or more) of system memory recommended for AMD CrossFire™ technology
Installation software requires CD-ROM drive, a keyboard, a mouse, and a display
DVD playback requires DVD drive and a DVD
Blu-ray™ playback requires Blu-ray drive and a Blu-ray disc
For an AMD CrossFire™ system, a second AMD Radeon™ HD 7970 Graphics card, an AMD CrossFire™ Ready motherboard and one AMD CrossFire™ Bridge Interconnect cable is required
Use of 3 or more displays with AMD Eyefinity technology requires a DisplayPort-capable panel or an AMD Eyefinity validated dongle. See http://www.amd.com/EyefinityDongles for a list of validated DisplayPort dongles
Windows Vista® or Windows® 7 operating system. 64-bit operating system highly recommended. Windows® XP not currently supported - see the following support page for additional details: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/hd7900seriesxpsupport.aspx

Unless his AX850 is bad it's more than enough for his system.

Yeah not sure oh just how much extra is required to run 2 cards these days, haven't done a multi-gpu system since Geforce 7800GT SLI.

Couple things I would do:

Use Atiman Unistaller. For the sake of maybe something got borked in your registry, just use it.

Then test each card individually. Note you do not have to uninstall your graphics driver in between installs. I would recommend using at Heaven D11 Benchmark using Extreme tessellation, 16x anisotropy, and 8x AA. Then run each of your games. Also keep an eye on temperatures.

If they both check out, try Crossfiring them again.

I would recommend CCC 12.3 with all of this. 12.4 gave me so many issues.

ok so my scores in heaven are sky-high!

seriously like 25 is the lowest frame and 189 is the highiest one with a avg of 87fps

everything set to highiest ! wtf is going on here lol??

When crossfiring, did you go into the registry and disable ulps, by opening regedit and setting "enableulps" from 1 to 0? I had to do that with both of my 6950's and I did it again with my 7970's. Maybe give it a whirl and retest with a bad game. If I'm not mistaken, it's a power saving feature that may be affecting your gpus, thus resulting in lower frames

Re-install windows. Use catalyst 12.3. Disable ULPS when you get it installed. (search google)

Its a pain in the ass, but just do it. Period. You will spend weeks trying to unfuck your registry and going in circles, just re-install windows.

i disabled ULPS seems like there is no change but i noticed a 10fps increase in skyrim alone

but one thing i been having more problems with is

Anno 2070 crashes after about 10 min in game
fallout New Vegas crashes when i try to access "options" at the launcher (game plays fine, but i cant change the graphical settings

Unless his AX850 is bad it's more than enough for his system.

But just barely. Actually if he has a UPS in the chain, it might not be enough.

Just for reference, my stock voltage overclocked (1100 MHz) 3x 7970s pull ~900W just for themselves when running 3dmark2011.

So 2x 7970s = 600W + another 250W for the overclocked CPU is riding on the 850W limit of the power supply.

7970s consume less than 200w max under gaming conditions, a highly overclocked SB wouldn't use 250w let alone his moderate OC.

AX850 is MORE than enough as long as it's functioning normally. His power consumption is more like 190+190+140 = 520w and has plenty of room left even for overclocking the GPUs.

As for the topic, have you tried running each card individually for a good amount of time to make sure they're both functioning normally? I originally had 2 6970 lightnings in crossfire and had a lot of issues like freezing/failed boot..etc and turned out that one of the cards was defective so I had to return it. Testing the cards on another PC would help a lot to diagnose the issue as well.

This (regarding power). As for the cards, if they function OK individually, then you know it's more likely a driver issue at that point.

um his system would not even pull 600 watts under gaming load. and as RamonGTP already said, his cpu would only use about 125 watts and thats at 100% load in a stress test.

EDIT: here with 7970 crossfire and 2600k oced to 4.8 the highest it hit at the wall is 584 watts so thats probably only around 525 real watts. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/03/28/nvidia_kepler_geforce_gtx_680_sli_video_card_review/8

he could even oc the cards a little and still have room to spare. plus that psu he has is top notch.
