Why are you so obsessed with the 2x 4770 thing anyway?
i just don't get it...

That aside, yeah I can forsee ATI releasing this sometime in the future.

Hater. :D

Many of you laughed when I suggested the idea of a HD4770x2 till ATI went public about the idea that never was.

Now there really is no reason for ATI not to build a HD5770x2.

Actually, I am waiting for the 5850x2 since the 850 cards will outperform the 770 cards just like the 4850 > 4770 last generation.

Unless you count some stupid 3dmarks instead of real gaming results where the crippled 4770 are outperformed when the resolution/AA/AF is bumped up.

Would be a very stupid idea to make a 5770x2

Sonic if you know how to tune 2 HD4770s in Xfire the performance is awesome. From my experience exceeds single HD4890.

I'm sure an HD5770x2 would destroy a HD4890.

I've never seen someone so in love with 3 numbers before. EDIT: I removed the pic to make room for the one below. ^_^

4770 was the first card based on the 40nm process. ATI did this because the yield at the time was too low (new fab process and all) to prevent wasting waffers on bigger more complex new gen of GPU's like the 5870 until the yields improved.

The next die shrink for GPUs will probably be 28nm which we probably won't see in mass production till 2011. So if ATI was going to do the same thing and release another card like 4770 it won't happen for quite awhile.

I heard Jim Carrey is doing a new movie. Suppose to be some sort of sequel to one of the more serious films he's been in. I couldn't really find any more information on it, but I did find this picture.

But you already have the 5000 series you said it yourself! (see sig)

Just stick with your 4/5770's and you will be good :)

Interesting concept. 4870x2 esque performance for about $200

Tbird87 you have interpreted my obsession with the HD ?770 well! :D

The real question is why have a 5770 X2 when you can top it with a 5850 X2?

Well if ATI stays true to the original idea behind the HD4770 the 770 card is one that offers affordable outstanding performance.

HD5770x2 if priced right should be around around $199.

A 5850x2 would more than likely be priced around $449.99 to start off.

HD5770x2 seems like more than enough power for my needs while still being able to be over clocked for insane performance.

Where do you get your pricing information at . From what I seen the 5770 is rumored to launch around the $200 mark taking the 4890s place in the line up. Maybe you are going to wait for the 5770x2 to drop to 200$ so you can have the same performance a whole year later as everyone else, but for half the price! Then you can make countless numbers of threads of how impressed you are with it and how it allowed you to overclock your cpu another 500mhz making far superior to any other setup on the market. That would allow the 5770 to follow the tradition of the greatest card ever made in the history of man, the one and only 4770. Deep inside me, I really wish ATI would rebadge the 4770 to the 5770 just to spite you.

I doubt that would happen.

I think a fair price for the 5770 would be around $119-129. I expect it to launch at $149-169 though since ATi doesn't have any DX11 competition from Nvidia right now. It should drop a lot though in the beginning of 2010.

Wouldnt they loose money on one right now?

Right now they have 1600sp chips. They disable 160 sp for the 5850. For your 5770 they would have to take a 1600sp chip and disable more sp and sell it for even less.

To top it off... they would have to put two on a board for $199?

Hey you guys know the release date for the 5650x2 All in Wonder yet? I'm going to hold off for that one.

No, the 4770 was a new chip design, just as the 45xx/43xx were. ATi doesn't waste good chips like the gt200 series from nVidia (except for the gtx250, that is just a 9800gtx...), where nVidia just disabled SP for lower range cards. ATi designs new ones for the purpose (why they use far less energy in the low-end range, too.

The 4770 wasn't a new design. It was just an RV770 chip with some of the GPU removed and a die shrink. In terms of architecture, it's identical to the 4830/4850/4870/4890.

Something to dream about. :)

Wow, 2 blower fans in a row. That makes about as much sense as...a 5770x2:rolleyes:

A 4770x2 might have made sense only because the 4770 was a new chip on a smaller process. It wasn't a gimped high end chip. The reason the concept never took off is:
1. A single 4890 came close to same performance for same price. Single card is always better than dual cards, for the simple reason that dual card scaling doesn't always scale well, and you have to wait for ATI to release appropriate crossfire profiles in new drivers.
2. Development cost
3. Release of 58xx series less than 6 months away.
4. There was almost zero interest in a 4850x2 (AFAIK only one company made one in limited quantities), so why bother with another card to crowd the lineup?

This time around a 5770x2 makes even less sense.

The last rumor I heard floating around was that the 5770 was going to be 800SP's, meaning it was essentially the performance of a 4870 with DX11 tacked on. Double 800SP's and you get 1600...you get a 5870.
If that rumor is even remotely true, a 5770x2 will be the dumbest concept to come out of ATI in long time.

What is wrong with the power of a HD5870 for alot less money and less power requirements?

Imagine 2xHD5770X2 for QUAD FIRE!!!!

What makes you think that a 5770X2 would use less power than a 5870 or that it would be any cheaper?

Again where are you getting your price and even power consumption numbers from. The 5870 has excellent performance per wattage. I'm betting 2x5770s will not be efficient enough to use less power than 1x 5870. It is not like the 4770 that had a new manufacturing process compared to the rest of the series 4800 series. As capt said, the ONLY reason the 4770 was even a little intriguing was because the power consumption improvments because it came out a year later on a new process. Also the price point is likely going to launch higher than the 4770. The card you are wanting really doesn't exist, unless you are still going to be oblivious to anything that makes you think otherwise.

yo ramonGTP i'm really happy for you and imma let you finish but ATI had the best video card of all time! of all time! (9700 pro)

:D

I don't think there's any solid specs out for the 5770 yet but the rumors I've seen places it at about 4890 performance. If priced similar to the 4770, the 5770x2 would offer an insane amount of performance for about $200. I don't see why you feel it doesn't make sense? X2 chips allow ATi to cover all their bases for the GT300 release.

4770 crossfire still gives users and incredible amount of performance for about $200. 4770 Crossfire and the 4850x2 are the two gems from last generation imo. Mind blowing performance for very little coin.
