Hello,
Recently ( 5 days ago) I’ve been facing problems with my Sapphire 4870X2, if I run any game the PC would lockup and/or a BSOD with errors 0x00000116 or 0X000000EA.
The only way to play the games is that by disabling catalyst A.I. only.
I tried Catalyst 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4 and non worked ( It was working fine before 5 days on Catalyst 9.2 but not anymore).
I Also tried a frsh install of Vista 64.

Is one of the GPUs dead?
Please help.

Well, that sure seems like you have a faulty card...That doesn't seem like a problem with excessive heat (check your temso anyway. Anything above 95c is worrisome) Having tried several driver sets and a newly installed OS, I don't think there's any other thing to do except RMA'ing the card.

EX58-Extreme
i7 920
3 x 2GB DDR3 1600MHz OCZ
Saphire HD4870X2
thermaltake Spedo case
Thermaltake 1200w PSU (7 months old) Might be cause of a boot up problem for the motherboard sometimes.

Your power supply is wayyyyy more than a single 4870x2 should ever need. If you suspect something is wrong with it though, RMA immediately.

I have the same PSU myself for a similar system and I had no problems with the card. is it locking up from overclocking the card at all? Or maybe the temps are causing the BSOD, since the card gets very hot on default fan settings, sometimes 110C

Even with cooling under strain this card does over 90-95 easy.
I am not the only one having this problem.

It is Official; the 2nd GPU is dead on the card.
I just hanged up with the Tech. from the retail store and they agreed to replace it with a new one (After 4 days of trying to convince them it was dead).

The new Sapphire comes in a newly designed box and new Avatar rather than the tomb raider like avatar that sapphire had been suing for a long time.
It comes with a werewolf avatar!!!!

I'm also going to buy a new PSU, but my choices are so limited to Zalamn, gigabyte and thermaltake.

Might also add another 4870 1GB to the mix.

Any suggestions?

well depending on how many watts you're going to get, i'd recommend getting a corsair for just a little bit more as they have some of the best support i've seen, but then again, why are you even changing your psu? you determined your problem was the gpu and you shouldn't have to replace a psu after just seven months, and if it is dying you should try to rma it at the least, as my enermax galaxy is still kicking after 2 yrs of use, and is still causing me no problems.

Also, as the OP said in the first post with the driver issues, i had/have the same issue sans the bsod. Like im on 9.2 but whenever i try upgrading it failed at installing new driver, and after some restarts it automatically reloads 9.2 and everything is working fine again. So maybe there is also some issues with 9.4?

Are you overclocking? You might want to switch your rig to stock speeds if you are, to see if you still get blue screens.

I got a couple of blue screens on my system and I scaled back the OC just a hair and they went away.

I got a new Sapphire 4870x2 today to replace the dead one and now it is working fine!
Also I got myself a new PSU as the old one some times causes the PC not to boot at all (stays dead after a cold boot) I got a thermaltake 1500w for the price of a thermaltake 1200w!

I tried to get Enermax but they were out of stock.

I currently not overclocking, I will overclock my 920 soon.

Every thing is working fine now !!
