I currently have a 300GB Raptor for my OS and a 1TB WD Green Drive in my setup. The majority of my VMs are stored on the 1TB drive and I'm getting some performance issues when running a lot of machines at once using VMWare Workstation.

I'm considering upgrading to a 2TB WD Black drive to replace the raptor, would I see any performance issues if I host my VMs on the same drive or would it be best to get a 2nd 2TB WD Black and store my VM's on it instead.
 
Get a 2nd 2TB Black. From my experience, having the VMs stored and run from the same drive as the host/OS drive has some performance degradation.

Though why replace the 300GB Raptor with the 2TB Black for the OS drive? In terms of performance, the 300GB Raptor will have the slight edge due to it better seek times.

Keep the os drive the 300gig and install the 2tb black for the storage for the vm's, this will make faster yes no ?

I know on my 2008r2 hyperv server all my vm's are running on my mirrored 500 gig drives, and its no slug of a machine.
