HD Camera Trick Challenge

Also on the box of the camera, it clearly shows the SAMSUNG with the G next to the lens, and in the mirror its the S next to the lens. Weird eh? Must be mirror tricks / fake camera work of some sort.

Yeah, it seems that they attempted to mirror the characters on the "reflected" phone but didn't do it right (they reversed the word rather than the letters.

)

Sorry, but I know how horribly annoying unclosed parentheses can be for some of us. :p

Well heres a little part of the trick for you guys, notice how when he first makes the camera "disappear," the video feed captures the lens covered/passed over before any part of his hand even moves across the video frame. This is enough to tell me that the phone in his hands is not whats taking the video at all. Theres something else to this trick.

It's been fully figured out. It's a window rather than a mirror, with a 'mirrored room' on the other side. You are not seeing the actual cameraman in the 'mirror', you are seeing someone who is duplicating his movements. Obviously, they're not duplicating them perfectly.

Among other things; early on, the actual cameraman points it at a mirrored piggy bank, which is obviously a real mirror. In that reflected image, the lens is on the LEFT side in the reflection, while on the big window/mirror, the lens is on the RIGHT (the 'reflection man' does not have a physically mirrored phone; only (some of) the lettering is mirrored.) The big one is not a mirror. Plain and simple. I suppose it *COULD* be a pre-recorded video playing on an HDTV, but when he gets up close, you should be able to see the pixels. And for the pre-recorded video, the mirror would have to have been a hole-in-the-wall anyway to get that perspective; and the real camera man would have to have been *VERY* careful to match movements, otherwise the background in the mirror-video would have been very obviously out-of-sync. The fact that the mirror's background is not out-of-sync, only the 'reflection man's movements, shows that it is indeed just a hole in the wall with a mirrored room behind.

P.S., I did not need the HD video to confirm any of this. This low-res YouTube video is sufficient. (My work computer doesn't like YouTube's HD video.)

As others have mentioned, this same trick was used in Terminator 2. Linda Hamilton (the actress who plays Sarah Connor) has an identical twin sister; so for the 'removing the chip from Arnie's head' scene, the 'reflection' actually shows the real Arnold Schwarzenegger plus one twin, and the 'real life' side is the other twin plus the artificial head with the hole in it. (And another actor providing Schwarzy's hands.) T2 also has another set of twins: The security guard who gets duplicated then poked through the eye socket is played by a twin; the morphed Terminator is his identical twin. From what I remember from the 'making of' commentary, only Linda is a professional actor, her twin sister is not, according to IMDB, T2 is her only role. The other twins are a set of twins who have made a career out of portraying twins. (Don and Dan Stanton.)

The dead giveaway on T2 was the fact her sister is a mom, and has bigger tits.

Sorry, but someone had to mention it.:rolleyes::p

The sister is hotter.

If that's really a hole in the wall we're looking through, it must be a very thin wall!

There is someone else recording beside him. Look at the image in the teapot, you can see the other guys arm.

That's it...it has to be a large HD monitor that he's sync'ing movements to.

No way. Shooting an HD monitor at that distance, you would be able to discern the pixels (there also would be a subtle grain jitter with a plasma, and a subtle screendoor effect with an LCD), plus there would also be a moire effect on fine details like thin lines, etc. The "reflection" in the video is sharp as a tack.

Like I said before and illustrated with the T2 reference, the mirror is just a hole to another room that is dressed to look like a reflection.

Filming into a mirror is always dicey, there are reflections and glare, and sometimes ghosting. I agree with those who say it's a second room.

Or I should really say, it is probably a hole to another room that is dressed to look like a reflection. :)

At least that's where I'd put my money.

How have I never seen that!?!?!?! I LOVE T2. Looks like I gotta go buy that DVD.

If you're a fan of the movie, then the deleted scenes are worth checking out. It has some interesting scenes like the one I linked and some clunkers that were rightfully left out, including an expanded ending that was really terrible.

As a whole, I still think the theatrical version is the best, but the expanded version is interesting to look at from the POV of seeing why certain things (some of which worked) were cut out for reasons of overall pacing.

Don't get the HD reference... maybe he was referring to the wood grain on the floor, I noticed that near the end the pattern on the wood on "one side of the mirror" is a bit swirly, but on "the real side" the wood grain is straighter. So obviously not a mirror :D

This is so obvious - the girl in the so called "reflection" was emailing me to come over and give it to her, and the pissy girl in the video is on her period.

When the phone gets close to the mirror, the lens should be in the center of the video, and it almost goes off the edge.

It's a piece of glass or hole.

That is a good point, the lens should always be centered but it wasn't. Good catch.

You can also tell right from the very beginning. In the reflection from the silver pot, the lens is on the left... but in the "mirror" it's on the right.

2 cameras... one recording... one for show?

Thats what i am thinking. Someone else looked at their feet and thats not a mirror. Its just a guy standing behind a doorway in another room. Someone else is recording. 2 cameras, one is probably his wifes and one is his. He more than likely put the camera away from place when the camera guy looked down. Theres no other way.

some place not from place. sry can't edit.

Detachable spy cam and thats why his girl is pissed for some reason. Caught her screwing his friend. :p

Being that it's Samsung and it's about the new "HD" camera phone, I'd assume he's filming a Samsung HD TV mounted sideways with a picture frame in front of it. Probably the reveal will be about how HD is so lifelike when filmed on the new HD camera phone and played back on a samsung HD TV etc...

Thing that doesn't make sense is there's no way that camera or any camera really would be able to film a TV and have it look that lifelike, so i dunno...got me...

look at the dark stick nxt tothe plant when the camera pans down. It is placed as an obvious clue.

LOL That was fun! Thanks [H] for posting this!

Well, the whole mirror thing was so out of "sync" with the original camera movements. It did not even feel right at all. Just wayyyyy too out of sync!

Yeah, definitely two rooms. When the girl starts walk towards the kitchen(?) and he spins around, she should already be in the kitchen, but in the "mirror" she is still walking into it.

Also, at around 0:29, if you look at the cord running down from the spot-lamp, you can see it runs in the corner to the floor, then plugs in. In the "reflection", it runs straight down from the lamp and coils right in front of the outlet.

also the flowers on the table are clearly arranged differently between the two rooms.
nifty trick tho.

i havent read anything passed the first page on this post as i assume someone has probably figured it out before me. but all i can figure after watching it once in low def and once in high def is that the "mirror" is actually a television and is playing a recording that he is moving in sync with.

the only hole with this theory is the audio. but i guess the tv could just be on mute?

On how everything was exactly done.

Okay....

Define "exactly", please.

The setup:
Two rooms, that are mirror images of each other. However, just because they wanted to mess with people (or perchance because they were lazy/incompetent,) they didn't perfectly mirror everything. (Exact placement of objects, etc.)

The people:
There are four people who are 'seen': "reflection man", who is the main face of the video. "woman" and "reflection woman", plus the actual camera man. At minimum, woman and reflection woman look similar to each other. We have no idea if reflection man and camera man look the same, because the only verifiable reflection of camera man, he is not seen well.

The action, pre-mirror:
Obviously, it starts off with a real camera of some kind filming. The camera points into a mirrored piggy bank, in which you can see sign #1 of what is to come: In the reflection, the lens appears on the camera's left. This means that if you were looking into the camera lens, you would see it on the right side of the camera, as shown on the box. In addition, the word "SAMSUNG" is seen to run from left-to-right properly, so that the G is nearest the lens on the picture on the box. The action then leads through a fairly normal routine, before coming to the "mirror".

The action, "mirror":
The camera is then pointed toward what it assumed to be a mirror. (Notice that he never calls it a mirror; although he does say "There's me".) At this point, you are seeing "reflection man" and "reflection woman" in the mirrored room beyond a piece of glass posing as a mirror. Reflection man and camera man mirror their movements (although, nobody can do this truly perfectly, and it shows, with lag matching movements.) Among the tells are that in the "reflection", the camera is oriented wrong. You see it with the lens on the right, as you would looking at it in person; not lens on the left, as it was in the earlier real reflection. This shows that they did not construct a 'mirrored' mock-up; but that reflection man is likely holding a real phone. They did mirror (some of) the letters, though; but because the physicality of the phone is not mirrored, the lettering is reverse from what it should be. The G is furthest from the lens in the "reflection". (Also, they left the "S"es un-mirrored.) For the 'disappear' and 'reappear' tricks, reflection man is just using standard 'sleight of hand' tricks to hide it while the camera is covered, and bring it back while the camera is pointed at the floor.

The action after he points away from the "mirror" is normal again.

So... What "exactly" do we not get? All of these details have been posted in various posts prior to mine. I'm just aggregating them.

You can also tell right from the very beginning. In the reflection from the silver pot, the lens is on the left... but in the "mirror" it's on the right.

I noticed that part. The lens location on the phone isn't the point. The lens will always have to be in the middle of a picture as it is an eye. Lets see if this makes sense. Go stand in front of a mirror and put your face right up against it. Are you looking into your own eyes or are you looking at your ear? In the video when the camera was brought right up against the mirror the lens wasn't centered like it would have to be in real life if brought up against a mirror, it was off to the right. what would only be possible if you had two cameras and were holding them in the opposite direction. Both people had their cameras with the lens in left hand. However when I face you my left hand is on your right side. Hense why the lens is wrong in the "reflection" like you pointed out. They should have flipped the entire phone not just the letters. The result of the way they have it now is that when the two phones are brought together the lens end of one is brought up against the nonlens end of the other. Meaning that instead of the lens being centered it moves off to the side and he is moving in toward the words and not the lens. Again only possible with two phones (cameras) and no mirror.

we did not show it all being recorded by a 3rd person showing it all being done, or show a behind the scenes.
