So a friend of mine just updated his existing computer. He kept a few parts, all of which were working fine for over a year and a half in the previous build. The only parts we upgraded were the CPU, mobo, RAM, and added a new SSD. His new setup:

i5 2500K
Corsair H60
ASUS P8Z68-V
8GB Kingston Hyper X 1600MHz 1.65V
XFX 6950 2GB (firmware moded to a 6970)
Antec Earthwatts 750W
2 SSD (bought a new Corsair F120 120GB Series 3 which is the new main drive)
3 HDD
Corsair 600T

The motherboard's BIOS is fully up to date. All drivers are full up to date. It's using a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 64-bit. There is some OC'ing going on but nothing insane. The issue is it randomly restarts during either Flash video playback or when running Java (Minecraft). It's not an instantaneous restart either, it happens at random. No blue screen, just complete system power off, then by itself powers back on again. We've tried different power surges, different wall sockets, direct wall sockets, etc. We've ran various stress tests of all kinds, and at no crash or random restart whatsoever. CPU, mobo, GPU, SSD/HDD, etc. were all being pushed for a good deal of time and no random restart. It only happens after a period of time (any period of time, usually not immediately though) in Minecraft and YouTube video playback.

Since there's no blue screen before the crash, we assume it isn't software related and is instead hardware related, but again who knows.

Are you sure? 1.65 seems to be factory spec., and the board wants to raise it even higher.
 
Yes, I am sure. the 1155 and 1156 sockets use 1.5V. The 1366 and maybe 775 use the 1.65V. And voltages over 1.65 can damage the CPU. You can check you approved memory list and see if your is supported, but I highly doubt it. My connection is too slow to download the list from Asus, but a quick check on Newegg shows all the approved memory at 1.5V or less.
 
The maximum RAM voltage allowed by Intel specifications is 1.65V. However we tend to recommend 1.5V RAM just in case.

With that said, try running that RAM at DDR3 1333 speeds if you haven't already. Also, see if you can swap out GPUs. Finally, grab a Digital Multimeter and start measuring your PSU voltages.

I will defer to your much greater knowledge. I will, however, stick by my earlier comment of making sure his memory is supported by the motherboard. Side note: JEDEC standard for DDR3 memory is 1.5V (see the research you got me to do!)

Okay, I'll try a couple things mentioned here. Thank you for the quick responses guys. You don't suppose it's the PSU being underpowered do you? I mean yes it is 750W but it's also an Earthwatts, which from what I understand is not performance oriented.

Also, would you guys agree this sounds like a hardware issue and not a software issue?
 
Just because its a good PSU brand name, doesn't mean the PSU hasn't gone bonkers on you. That is why he suggested checking the voltages with a multimeter. That method will let you know if you're dealing with a over/under voltage issue.
