Well... things are sure looking pretty shitty for me right now. A little under two weeks ago, the beast hit close to home. A friend of mine's mother died of cancer. It hit her quick, she was only diagnosed two months ago. I didn't know her well, but it's still very sad to see her go. She was a fantastic person. Not to mention, I felt really bad for my friend. Dealing with a loss like this is always tough.

Then, last weekend, a coworker and friend (not a really close friend, but a friend none-the-less), was killed in a car accident after her homecoming dance. Not cancer related, but that certainly does not soften the blow any. It's been hard to actually think about her being gone. She too, was a great person. Good student, lots of friends, didn't mess around in anything she shouldn't.

Just when you figure the bullshit can't pile any higher, the beast strikes again. Another coworker, perhaps my favorite manager, died suddenly Saturday night of cancer. I just found out today. I am not sure what type of cancer she had. I knew she was battling it, but since she was still coming to work, I had assumed she was winning the fight.

So, there you have it. I get to attend three funerals in one week. It all really sucks. Even though none of them were family, all three were deaths a little to close to home, and a little to close together. I could handle one... but three is a little bit ridiculous. I still have a hard ti me grasping that any of this is real.

I don't know what else to say... other than that is has put a new found fire in me to keep folding. One day, were going to be saving people like them. Hopefully it's much sooner than later. I can't take much more of this.

Hang in there, Brian... times like this test us. We must stay strong to prevail.

My friend Mike that I have written about from time to time has been battling a strange form of lung cancer for the passed 5 years and we just found out that the tumors are back and he is most likely going to need another operation. Too much for a 27 year old to be dealing with, but here we are fighting, praying and folding. It's all we can do. Just be there for your friends and treasure every relationship. It could all be gone tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that, that's why we do what we do, fold to find that cure so we can put an end to the beast for good.

This too will pass...

Take hold of the the ones around you and make the best of everything.

I'm sorry to hear about all the misfortune. I hope things get better...

About 15 minutes before you posted this (I just found out), a close family friend was involved in a car accident and ended up in the shock trauma unit with one of his friends from school; another girl has a broken leg but is otherwise okay. His parents are spending the night in the shock trauma unit. He's in stable condition, but it's the shock trauma unit for a reason.

The strangest thing is he (and the rest of his family) were over here over the weekend. Before that I hadn't seen him in a good month. To use my favorite phrase, funny how that works out.

So, long story short, pray for him and his family.

Since this may apply too:
My uncle, whom I really do not like for various reasons, was diagnosed with prostate cancer the other week. He's getting radiation treatment.

Sorry to hear about all your guys bad luck. It most certainly sucks. :(

All the more reason to fold, at least for the beast. The other ones.. Are part of life. My girlfriend's uncle (really, second father) passed away last week of a stroke out of nowhere. He was one hell of an upstanding guy. It's been a bad week for the horde.

Heads down, fold hard, and take care of ourselves. That's all we can do.

QFT, amen to that.

Bump for an update on my friend. I got email from his parents today; he's doing well and he may be off sedation fairly soon. They also sent a link with the local FD's news about the crash, including pictures of the car. He was in the passenger seat of a station wagon, and got broadsided by a Chevy Suburban towing a trailer (probably the biggest object on the road short of a five-ton truck) right between the left-side doors.

When I look at those pictures, I don't know how he survived. But I'm glad he did. I'll try to remember to update this thread once he's back to good health.

Holy crap. He was in that little green car? Did the roof or that thing come off on its own, or did they cut that off to get him out of the car? Either way, that car got creamed. It's good to hear he survived. Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery.

How was he hit though? He got nailed hard on the side, but it looks like a straight road to me. Was he making a left out of a parking lot or something?

He was in the green car, they cut the roof off to get him (and the girl in the back seat, I think) out. As I hear it, he was pulling out of a driveway/parking place or a side street or something, didn't check sufficiently, and got creamed. But I didn't hear it directly. I don't think he got hit full speed - maybe the driver of the other car had a chance to slow? - but it's still a pretty incredible amount of damage. Everyone survived, and he's the last one in a hospital. Says a lot for modern cars, and modern medicine.

Life is short; make the most of it.

Wow that's crazy. Glad he's doing better though, definately a lucky man looking at those pics.

While looking at those pictures I swore a lot, u_m. Be very very very thankful your friend is okay. That is just insane.

My sister was involved in a very serious accident (not her fault) on OSU's campus, and rescue crews had to cut away the roof in a similar fashion. Brings back memories...

Hope your friend's recovery is swift and that he's okay.

Now we just need a Folding project to cure ineptitude behind the wheel, particularly for drivers of bloated SUVs...

I had an Aunt die of cancer on Saturday. It was a long and painful process. I hope she has found peace.
