Haswell News

Dude don't crap my (positive) thread with your negative crap. Post it in it's own entity with you as the poster.

There's a report from Hardware.Info that claims Intel is having issues with USB 3.0 implementation in upcoming products based on fourth-generation Intel Core "Haswell" processors. This report stems from a "reliable source" who got his hands on an internal document sent to one of Intel's partners detailing the Haswell-based issue.

According to the supposed document, when a Haswell-based system wakes from an S3 sleep mode, users will experience issues if a device is plugged into one of the USB 3.0 ports. These "issues" include blank pages displayed in Acrobat Reader PDFs, video that stops rather than resumes, and more. A quick fix is to restart the troubled application without having to reboot the entire system.

Sounds like more of a nuisance but still they should work their ass off to get it patched up. This NEVER looks good before or right after a launch.

-------------------------

The Lynx Point chipset designed to accompany the Haswell processors comes packed with integrated USB 3.0 support for six individual ports, six on-board SATA 3 (6 Gb/s) ports and more. Unnamed industry sources claimed last year that both a weakening desktop market demand and Intel's Haswell family will cause several second-tier motherboard manufacturers to exit the market in late 2013 due to the integrated functions. That's because features like USB 3.0 help motherboard makers differentiate themselves from rivals.

Ugh more case of the big guy killing off the little guy in business. Deceptive greed and monopolizing. Wonder who those several "second tier" mobo manufacturers are....

Well, USB 3.0 shouldn't be something to differentiate with, like USB 2.0. They could add more gigabit ethernet ports, even 10 gigabit ethernet. More PCIe lanes, more USB 3.0 ports, firewire, esata, good RAID, good digital audio outputs... there's a ton of features to add to a motherboard.

Haswell's coming y'all ..I can't post the valid cuz it's my friend's..same one that's been floating around the i-net..he posted it fer a second and it turned into several different reviews.Buncha bullshit.Glad I told him to pull it.

Seems legit.

Yeah, the desktop world could be in for a rough future ahead. And it's sad because it seems like most of Intel bundling that are trying to muscle in on this territory are in no way versions of hardware that I would be remotely even proud of.

USB issues on wake that affect applications. If that ships and is what "source" is saying I think that has to definitely put Intel and that chipset up for some sort of award.

I am just waiting on the 8 core chips to come out for the "E" version.

If they are already positioning Ivy-E above Haswell, then it doesn't seem to me that Haswell will have much performance improvement over current Ivy Bridge chips.

I am eagerly waiting Haswell, upgrading from an i5 750. Should be a nice upgrade.

Low tdp and high oc'ing could help Haswell alot and since its a more refined
Trigate 3d implementation, lets hope its a better experience then ib. First and foremost, a better IHS and thermal contact!!

High Ocing would be nice..Hope it doesn't get insanely hot...I haven't seen any results from K chips.

They need to hurry up and get something going. The upgrade bug is going to bite me very soon.

I'm eat up with the upgrade bug. I was gonna get a FX-8320 hut they're not that big an upgrade over my 8150 and I've read one too many reports of not being able to overclock passed 4.5 GHz so I was gonna ride it out and see if AMD cones out with a refresh in the next few months. If not and Haswell is a hit, I think I'll finally abandon ship and switch to Intel.

The E series are always cost a pretty penny right? So if I just want to upgrade my i7 920 to a CPU that costs around $300-400 the best choice would be just going for plain old Haswell correct?

I want to upgrade the other half of me just wants those Playstation 4 exclusives.
I figured my AMD rig will be good for a while. I hope desktops stay around for another 10 years.

Too bad the reporter who supposedly saw the errata didn't describe what the suggested workaround was. :p It's pretty unlikely a bug like that would be allowed to continue in production without an effective workaround until it's fixed in the next stepping.
More details are being explained now. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums...el-s-Haswell&p=5174909&viewfull=1#post5174909

It's the Lynx Point chipset, not the Haswell CPU. Doesn't make it any less of a problem, but the issue is not the CPU.

I've got an old Q6600 that's at 3.2ghz right now comfortably and probably could go a bit higher but it's starting to really struggle in AAA games now paired with a 560ti. I'm wondering what the benefit of waiting for the Haswells would be vs a hexacore or just a $300 3k whatever is. Anyone?

Grrrr. I'm still on woodcrest and itching to upgrade. Hurry up, haswell.

More importantly, the source let us know that the next-generation performance range of CPUs will be coming by the end of the year, and not 2014 as previous speculated. This news comes from a source that is very close to the subject.

While we suspect this to be Ivy Bridge-E based, our source wasn't exactly clear and it could end up being Haswell-E, with Ivy Bridge-E being skipped. We do know, however, that the next-gen performance chip will make use of a chipset called X99.

That's interesting, it would explain all the rumors about IB-E being cancelled. I thought it was odd that their extreme platform was lagging behind the mainstream platform. The only downside is no drop-in upgrades for Sandy Bridge E users.

Yeah, that would be pretty sad. I know a lot of people have been pushing the x79 chipset because it was more future proof. Now it looks like that chipset might only get sb-e range of cpus before going eol.

Same here!! That bug is buzzing around my head like mad. Been dying to upgrade from this old nForce2 system which I built nearly 8 years ago. Wondering if I should go Ivy bridge now or wait for Haswell.

Sorry.. I am a bit behind. When's Haswell supposed to come out? I've been reading conflicting info. :/

In any case... I'm excited. :)

Ugh, I'm so torn. I've been running my Q6600 @ 3.4ghz for well over four years. I've got a tax return coming to upgrade my system with, and now I don't know if I should go for IB now or just keep waiting for Haswell.

Worth noting, my primary motivation for upgrading is that I do a lot of photo editing and the Q6600 get s a bit bogged down between Lightroom and Photoshop. Insofar as gaming, my system is still solid and if that's all I used it for... I don't even feel like I'd care to upgrade right now at all.

To be honest with you, if it were me, I would just wait. You've waited this long.. What's a few more months going to do? Y'know? :)

This look pretty solid! Nothing earth shattering but 7-13% over Ivy ain't nothing to sneeze at.

I agree! Can't wait for it to come out! :)
