Has DayZ improved?

clunky yes, but in many respects its miles ahead of other games. Considering the draw distance and the excellent day/night/weather cycles, not many games look as spectacular as when your watching the sun come up over the coastal hills of chernogorsk....Considering that its not some faked sunrise like most games, its fully functional cycle. Up close its crude, but the game still amazes me visually.

Hitup a wasteland server(Launch regular ARMA2 AO and filter "wasteland sandbox") and have a fucking blast.

Wasteland Sandbox is a server side mod for ARMA2. Its like DayZ but without zombies, better PvP and actual base building. Of all the games I have played, wasteland is fucking boss

Whats great is you dont need anything but ARMA2 AO. no mods to download...if you have ARMA2 on steam, just join the server and it downloads the mission file and your in and rockin!

My friends and I play every single night. Its fun because you can join up and just fight from a small camp in the woods, or you and your team gather base building supplies and can make huge bases. You can just ambush at a road, or you can go for missions(the game spawns missions ranging from a disabled helicopter that is guarded by AI and needs fuel to a small AI base with supplies).

Personally I find wasteland is the best gaming experience in years.

great question OP, I was wondering the same thing just the other day. Anyword on when the official Dayz mod will be released and will it be based on the new Arma 3 engine? Been out of the loop for a while now, since around the time Borderlands 2 came out.

BTW whats the latest on the 2 devs that were arrested on spying charges? hope that turned out ok
 
I've heard that it's going to be based on the Arma2.5 engine, so it's an improved version of what's in Arma2 but not using the Arma3 engine. And the devs are still imprisoned AFAIK.
 
Well, it was fun till my friend got banned for flying a helicopter.
 
Do tell - why is that bannable? Was it assumed he acquired it by hacking?

The admin said we spawned it, but we found it in its natural spawn (according to the dayzdb.com/map loot map), which the admin said wasn't a spawn. It sucked, we spent like 2 hours finding all the parts and repairing it. We only had 2 fuel cans, so we barely made it to the nearest gas station when the pilot was banned.We also stuffed it full of every car part and fuel can we had, so we lost all that when it disappeared.

The server seems nice, but I don't like the idea of the admin jumping in and randomly banning people for fun.
 
Was it on a private server? Because that really sounds like a power-hungry admin using the server as his own personal playground and just looking to hoard vehicles for him and his buddies.

so what's as great setup or considered l33t loot?

i donate to one server and just got an email that i get a class to spawn with, just have to pick the items.. haven't used a lot of guns in dayz.. only catch is i can't change it once i select my items.

any help guys?

Yesterday we were camping out near the NEAF on Chen. Saw some guy get his plane stuck in a fence. He brought in some big ass truck to get it un-stuck.

After we killed him, his truck was like a GOLD MINE!!!!

I'm going to hell.

EDIT: I play this game like I've always played Minecraft Survival. I have secret camps and travel very light. I only carry abot two mags of ammo, the medical supplies, and some food/drink. Everything else just doesnt need to be carried on you all the time. I would never EVER EVER EVER drive around the truck that has my life's work in it like he did.

with the dayZ stories I hear on this forum, it really seems like they should just remove the zombies completely and just make it a game of survival of the fittest.

the true point of the game mostly seems to be get stuff and don't get killed by other humans. My least favorite part is the zombies, I'd rather just explore and track people and whatnot.

I really doubt that that truck had "his life's work" in it. Once you get a vehicle, finding guns is easy. Usually by the time we have a truck we don't even bother with anything that isn't belt fed, .50 cal, or scoped. At any one time we usually have access to several DMRs, a few bizons (for the supressors), a few AS50s, a few M107s, some L87 thermal, satchel charges, at least 1 of every LMG, M4 and M16 rifles with ACOG or red dots (don't bother with the grenade launcher versions, the sights suck). Think about it. If you have a car, you can just drive up to a hospital and get atleast 20 of each medical supply (blood bags, morhpine, painkillers, epipens, bandages). It takes very little time. Weapons are so easy to find, I don't even know why people bother server hopping.

Getting a helicopter is slightly different. You can travel much faster than a car, but your landing options are limited and its easy to get shot down making milk runs in it.

Our take on it has always been that we wouldn't have been able to carry all that with us anyway, so if its gone, oh well. We have a nice fleet of vehicles and tents scattered around the map. Hiding tents with basic supplies near the spawns gets us enough to make the trek to a larger, hidden base.

There were LMG's and snipers in this truck, along with a plethora of ammo and tons and tons of other stuff. There is no way in hell I wold have been driving this truck around, period.

I wish the zombies were more like zombie's, from say The Walking Dead.

From every video I've watched of Day Z, they don't even look like zombies.

They probably had more in their camp. We always keep a few of each weapon in vehicles. That way we can fully kit-out a friend if they join fresh, or respawn.

We thought the same way as you, until we started losing vehicles because the people in them weren't sufficiently armed. Sure, if we lose a vehicle, we lose a lot, but we have enough guns in the vehicle to arm everyone for every role (DM, support, medic, assault, engineer) and lower the chance of the vehicle being taken. We escaped from a hacker yesterday because he wasn't expecting me to drop my LMG and pull out an AS50. I put a shot into his driver's head through the bullet resistant window of their Vodnik and drove off in our Ural.

How did you know he was a hacker? NPC driver? (I'm assuming that Vodniks were legitimately added on the server of course.)
 
DayZ would be great if they took out the stupid zombies.

There is really no point to them anyway. It's all just about getting gear and killing people.
 
You and I apparently play different games. If all you're about is getting gear and killing people, wouldn't it make more sense to not play DayZ and play something like Wasteland instead?

I was on a clan server. There is only 1 Vodnik per server. One of our allies was killed via Vodnik at a location 13,000m from us and in less than 5 seconds it was on us. He then proceeded to teleport all over the map to people as soon as they spawned and mow them down. One clan member was talking trash about them, so they followed him around, killing him before anyone else. He tried to get into the Vodnik and found that it was full, which is not possible without NPC players as our group made up 7 of the 9 people in game.

It was a small group of them. They joined our TS server (which is advertised on the DayZ server) and started yelling at us in some mixed Russian/English.
 
alright does any one know of populated server(25+) that have donation perks? guess i just got the shaft on spending $45 on the ZUST dayz server. haven't received one email from them about my perks.
