Big difference. That Maxtor drive needs all of three platters and six heads to achieve its 250GB stated capacity, and thus it uses 83GB platters that have a maximum sequential transfer speed of only 59 MB/s. The 1TB Samsung F3, on the other hand, uses only two 500GB platters and four heads with a maximum sequential transfer speed of greater than 140 MB/s.
 
There is also the Cache size, the Maxtor has a piddly 8MB, the Samsung has 32MB, not to mention the Samsung has SATA 3.0 compatability.
 
Didn't Maxtor go under a while ago? Or maybe they were bought out, I can't remember. Either way, I'm pretty sure they don't exist anymore.

And yes, there's no comparison here. The Samsung would absolutely demolish that old shitty Maxtor drive.

Maxtor did get bought out by Seagate back in 2005.
