Hard Drive

Meh, for what you're saying you'll need a drive for, buy what's cheap and has a good waranty. Don't worry about the little details as long as you can use the drive (that it is compatible with your computer) and just choose according to budget. The differences among most hard drives is not so noticeable to someone who is not benchmarking.

Yes, you don't need to worry about getting something fancy if it's just storage, but if you can, get SATA the small cables are sooooo much nicer and easier than the PATA's ribbons.

If you buy an OEM SATA drive be sure to buy a cable with it. It won't come with one, then you'll walk to a brick and mortar to find that they sell 'em for $20.
