hard drive prices?

WTF? why have hard drive prices doubled or tripled? 160gb at newegg for $89?
 
Using SSD's i went to buy a mechanical HD for my friend for xmas, guess hes getting something else. Should have googled first.
 
Flooded factories in Malaysia caused to closing of several facilities. Hopefully will correct itself by summertime.
 
Western Digital reported that it's production is resuming ahead of schedule. Expect them to be the first to drop.


But yeah, where have you been for the last 2 months>

The hike is not from the manufacturers. Yes they increased their prices a little, but not even 30%.

The rest of the price hike is due to the supply/demand situation, and that will last a long time. As for Western, they resumed some of their production, but since two thirds of it was down, it doesn't mean everything is back to normal, far from it !
