Hard Drive Cloning?

Well, im looking at upgrading the work laptop from the current 80GB, to the 500GB out of my dead laptop.

Now id like to just swap them. They are sata, so am I able to put both in my PC, and select them in My computer, and copy/paste? Will this copy everything? Will I need to use a boot disk to repair windows?

Or how would I go about doing this?
 
Use clonezilla to copy the old disk to the new one. Then use gparted to resize the filesystem to the new bigger disk. Both programs are free :)

Nope. You can't copy paste an OS that's in use.

You need to clone the drive with one of those programs mentioned and because the clone will only use the 80GBs on your new 500GB drive you'll need to expand that 80GB to fill the entire drive.

AFAIK Windows disk managment can expand the drive after cloning.

when you clone does the new drive have to be plugged in via SATA or can you use USB
