TLDR:


Cons:

Sprint ruins the game. You can just sprint through everything and skip actually playing the game, even on legendary the flood can't even catch you.

AI kinda sucks. It's worse than the original AI.

There are a bunch of "modern audience" changes that make the game less fun.

Cut scenes are pre-rendered and feel unfinished. The cut scene doesn't match what is in the actual game (for example ship crashes in the cut scene, you start playing and it's not even there). Some were changed a lot and miss the mark on what the actual point of the original cut scene was. They also cut some cut scenes from the game.

There are a bunch of things in the game that feel unfinished. For example the flood and the brutes have no visual feedback when you shoot them.


Pros:

Graphics are actually really good for the most part except for Forerunner stuff. Outdoor areas are great, human and covenant interiors are great.

Well, the Forerunner stuff looks good. However, based on that video the art style changed on it to a point where it's rather different and generic. In a way, I can say it looks better but it also looks wrong.
 
Still feels extremely dated and sloppy just like every other Halo game other than the first. The animations and cutscenes are horrendous and while the graphics are better they still feel below average when compared to other AAA titles.
 
Kind of sad how they apparently keep botching Halo games. You'd think this would be an easy one. I do like sprinting as I disliked the original floaty movement, but they could have easily added a "Original Style" movement and health mode.
 
You can kill the male NPCs, but not the females.

I'm a graphics whore and would prefer a nicer looking game. That said, I'm not happy about all the changes to this remake. I will probably play it one of these days but only when it goes on sale.
 
Not sure why the hate. Its a great distraction and supprisingly runs really well for me on my AMD 395 Max Asus Z13. Medium details with FRS at Ultra and native 1440p

Don't recall that woman from the originals. Ruins the tone and feel of the character. Master Chief had nothing to prove, that was not the original character. That is fine if it fits the setting like a new character who just entered a unit and needs to earn respect. It does not fit Halo 1. It seems quite clear the people who were behind this did not like Master Chief and wanted to insult him in some way.

Edit: Apparently she is only in the bonus missions? That would be a bit better if they don't insert them into the original campaign. But still seems like a poorly written character.

Of course that cites the "we hired people that hated Halo" quote we all know and love. And they said that under the guise that they only hated it for certain aspects that could have been better. And while there's always ways even the most beloved games could have been improved, that's like hiring a sushi chef at a steakhouse so they can incorperate raw fish into the menu somehow. They should be hiring people that want to improve the already good qualities of the game, not whatever perceived inequalities they had about the originals. But that would likely mean they'd have to fire all the women in the studio and bring back all those nasty chud men. 😏

Halo was the start of the downhill slide for PC shooters.

They took what Quake and Unreal already did better, stripped out the skill and made it simple enough for console players who couldn’t handle a real FPS. Floaty movement, regenerating health, aim assist, plastic looking enemies, basic gunplay etc. It offered nothing new and felt like a step back even in 2001.

I had no interest in it then and still don’t.

Halo didn't have regenerating health, it did have regenerating shields. Regen health was added in later games.

Aim assist was a crutch, I always disabled it.

The cutscenes are so freaking bad.

I think the worst offender is the escape pod leaving the pillar of autumn.

It starts out with an elite stuck in the corner doing some sort of stupid dance just watching you as you throw the marine into the escape pod.

Then the escape pod flies all around the pillar of autumn including right next to the thrusters like it's some sort of super speed star fighter. It's an escape pod.....

Then it flies around an entire planet within seconds, and from the planet to the ring within seconds, then cruises the entire width of the ring in a half second.
So this escape pod can basically travel at light speed and turn on a dime. But it can't handle basic landing and the entire crew dies except for MC.


Complete joke of a studio.
