Half Life 2 Opening Scene Remade Using Unreal Engine

Awesome!
Cant wait to see how it will compare to Valve source engine 3...

Amazing looking work. Was that unreal 3 or the new unreal engine 4?

In any case we all know Valve is not working with anything but the Source Engine they create.

I would hope they would consider working on Unreal Engine 4 since it's open source.

Here's dreaming we'll see HL3 before 2020.

Valve are working on making Source 2 the easiest engine to develop for ever and making it super adaptable.

I was about to say...one of the coolest things about the Source Engine was that it worked on a wide-ranging of hardware and worked well on it too.

It is also more adaptable and easy to fix things.
And for the the most part, netcode just plain worked (hint, DICE).

That said, it would be nice to see what Source 2 has in-store for us.

Apparently he will be converting it over to UE4.

[QUOTEWas working on this City 17 environment in UDK, still tons of stuff to do like creating all the exterior stuff, train interiors and some smaller models (monitors and props) but then Epic released UE4 in all its glory. I'll probably quit this project in UDK and convert it all to the Unreal Engine 4. It's gonna take a while though. Please note that there's lots of placeholder models/textures/lighting and general derpyness in these pics. Can't wait to get going with UE4.][/QUOTE]

I've been playing with the UE4 engine, I can only imagine what he'll be able to do in it. It's so damn simple and powerful.

Looks awesome!

Anyone knock up some comparison screens?
I don't have hl2 installed.

wow, that's insane. If he made it all himself, textures, meshes etc. I am wondering how long it must've taken.

Remember that dude who spent 2 years or so making that Skyrim mod? That is intense dedication.

I can't tell where, but apparently the dude says it's going to look even better. Nice.

Really awesome, please remake the whole game , I'll buy it

Hey, release a remastered 1080p version of HL2 and the episodes and put it out for PS4 and Xbone. I would pay $40 to play that.

Amazing work! This guy is good. But why on earth would he choose the horrendous Unreal engine, with it's textures popping in and out and it's poor CPU use?

I bloody hate that engine...

(I think I know the answer though, it IS easy to develop for, or at least comparatively easy)

Well I don't think it was meant to be played, so the performance doesn't matter. That being said, have you used UDK's material editor? I'm not aware of anything else you can get for free that comes anywhere near that level of power and flexibility.

i think unreal engine have less problems with texture popping compared to rage engine. unreal engine however does render the less detail textures first before showing the better textures. rage engine shows like no textures first

Nice! As I understand there is a lot more graphical toys and tricks to play with in UE4.
