Half-Life 2 - Far Cry - Doom 3.

HL2 - What can I say...long time HL fan and will continue to be, absolutely loved everything about this game, even TDM :)

Doom3 - Wasn't horrible, but it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Enjoyed the graphics, for being the gfx whore it is (HL2 physics pwned though). I got tired of demons and zombies sneaking up behind me every damn minute of the game....got old.

Far Cry - I was looking forward to this game, it's scores on the average are great and lots of talk on boards. I have to say, I haven't ever been as dissapointed in my life then when I popped it into my machine. Water is fantastic...that's all it really has it going for it. Thank God I got it for free...

That pretty much sums it up for me. Doom3 had the graphics, HL2 had the gameplay, Farcry had....ummm... nice water. Couldn't stand much more of the gameplay, graphics made it somewhat fun to watch.

I never played Far Cry, but Doom 3 rocked for scarying me silly and HL2 cause it was so well scripted and beautiful to look @. I can't count the times I jumped in my chair playing Doom 3. They did a good job of making a scary game, much better fear factor then almost all current 'horror' flicks.

3. Farcry - Just run of the mill glitzy FPS, kinda flat in the end.
2. Doom 3 - Kinda adrenaline pumping, though very repetitive. Some of the Hell scenes were nice and disturbing though. What I'd expect from Hell.
1. HL2 - Ok, messing with the physics kept me entertained, shotgun and the .357 were fun.

Though none of them touch Thief 3. :D Thief = Teh Pwn.

OMG, excuse me Z(+)DIAC and Jeriko_Cherry, but I think Far Cry had a bit more than just nice water! What about the seamless 3D display of the tree covered mountains? I haven't even got a high end machine but the graphics were still an absolute triumph. It was the game play though, that really kept me going till the end.

The intensity of the fire fights was amazing. I had to learn new skills in sneaking, shooting and hiding. It was immersive. I'll always remember hiding behind a tree with bullets chipping off the bark and bouncing off the rock wall behind me. That was fear! None of this cheap murder in the dark (D3) stuff. The intelligence of the Mercs was gripping too - they really know how to duck, hide and wait for you or spread out and hunt you down.

There were so many ways to approach every mission. You could balls it out with guns blazing, pick people off one at a time, or just try and sneak past the whole thing. Different places required different mixtures of the above approaches. The number of different ways to complete each mission makes it more replayable.

The auto save method is the best idea ever! It increases the challenge to master each mission. Not to just use the old "kill - save, kill - save..." routine which is not at all satisfying.

I'm going to give HL2 more of a chance, but so far the game is a cake walk.. The interactive cut scenes are nice but the game play is linear.

Far cry isn't an absolute horrible mess, but honestly I would play Doom 3 or HL2 anyday for gameplay, Far Cry had shit. I couldn't believe the AI at times...absolutely horrible. Story was a complete rehash, very unoriginal. Voice acting was just as much shit as the AI. Bio-enhanced humans/creatues looks goofy as hell, more cartoony then scary.
