I am here browsing on our corp network and [H] no longer blocked. I dreaded the worst in that situation and figured it would be that way forever.

I am guessing that some of our IT Staff hang out here.

Same here! Hardforum is now available for USDOJ. I'm lovin' it.

Thank goodness. Of all the BS that has happened, you guys losing access at your jobs was what bothered me the most about it.

I was infected, it was pretty bullshit. A window popped up that looked 95% the same as the AVG window that typically pops up on the computer. I clicked close, not install or anything else. Before I could do anything 'System Tool 2011' was installed, ctrl+alt+del worked but task manager was disabled, all .exe's were unusable. Background on the computer changed to "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED etc etc" with binary code background and about 5 'system' pop-ups every couple mins. Malware bytes was the only thing that cleared it. Looking around the net, it looked like there was a lot of people who've had problems with this virus, lots of dedicated threads on different forums about removal.

What were you running for AV protection prior to this happening?

AVG only as far as I know. Its not my computer so I wasn't familiar with the antivirus software, and the owner said it was the window that normally pops up. I was in a hurry and didn't look closer like I should have. The computer was running an older version of IE instead of FF or chrome so I'm sure that didn't help.

I've dealt with quite a few virus' in the past and this was one of the most intrusive and quick acting. It made me feel like a compuNOOB

Oh, your post above made it sound as if you were infected, but it wasn't you. That's good to hear.

Not sure I follow you.

As I posted originally, yes I was infected and had to remove the virus.

EDIT: Is the confusion coming from the fact I was on someone elses computer at the time of the infection?
