Hackers have hit Comcast, defacing their website and WHOIS records. Unfortunately, as with all hack attacks, this will simply garner sympathy for Comcast and take the spotlight off their shady practices.

This morning many people will be celebrating as reports circulate that in the last few hours Comcast has been the subject of a hacking which defaced its homepage (mirror here). The hackers appear to have changed the Comcast DNS/WHOIS records which were pointing at a non-Comcast address.

I'm feeling something for Comcast.. hang on.. might be sympathy.. let me feel it some more...

hmm..

wait no, thats just hunger.. I haven't had lunch..

Ever wonder if Comcast paid somebody to hack them to take the spotlight off their shady practices?

their site is still jacked up, like the stylesheet is missing, or something

Agreed, let me put on my caring face. I can't seem to find it.. oh well.

lol you have Comcast internet. I'd have dialup before them.

Im not gonna lie. If comcast was fast, cheap, and worked I would have it.
It is the fastest in my area
its NOT the cheapest
and it doesnt work

Every since they bought out roadrunner my service was down atleast 1 week a month. About 4 months of that and I was ready to kill. Now I have a crappy 3meg DSL line but atleast it friggen works!

Piss on comcast, may they burn in bankruptcy hell one day.

Unlikely to happen ^. This is funny, although Comcast is actually superb in my area (half the state) and that's not because the other competition is sub-par either. I don't deny that they have issues across the nation though, it's just not "everywhere" as some say :D. As long as my service stays good and intact... it's all I care about lol.

Sympathy for Comcast? Not. Sympathy for the poor hackers that had their hard work undone.

Go hackers, go away Comcast.

Now, what I really want to see hackers to is to hack into the computers of scum sucking SPAM senders and phishers, put in a nice screen sharing program/back door, and say here you go FBI: here are some bad guys, go get 'em.

I'm so sick of "add . com" SPAM emails because dome SPAM filters can't filter ". com" because they ignore punctuation, and goolgle also - irritating that putting something in " " quotes doesn't search for EXACTLY that string. Grr....

Damnit! Why can Verizon's FioS be available in my area so I can switch from this crappy provider!

I'm tired of these random slow speeds, email/surfing watching, and their outrageous price hikes!

aww, I feel so bad for Comcast .... NOT

When they took over from Roadrunner I was a very sad panda, RR was SO much better in every way - and a little cheaper. But since the government decided somehow that only having 1 choice for cable didn't constitute a monopoly, we're pretty much stuck with whatever company is in our area.

I wondered what the heck was going on late last night ... my homepage was showing a like "under construction" image and that work was being done. Didn't see anything different when I got online a little while ago.

Their news box - the one that usually rotates between like 4 categories? that's not working yet.

The biggest thing to me is, ok fine, somebody proved they could hack Comcast (can't almost anything be hacked these days?) ... but does Comcast know/have they looked/would they know how and where to look to see if whoever did this planted a backdoor?

Personally, as long as my own "stuff" (passwords, etc. - which I don't store anyway) is safe now and in the future, I could give a rat's ass what some kids do to annoy Comcast. They've brought it on themselves.

Being throttled every single weekend starting Friday afternoon through Monday afternoon is getting really really tired. There's been times I gotta check that the modem's on ... I feel like I'm back on dialup its so slow. And no, I don't use torrents, I do some streaming to watch a tv show I might have missed and I do a few hours of online dj'ing. Heavy user I'm not.

No FIOS here, probably won't be. And Verizon, the only real DSL provider in our area is not accepting new customers (and they sucked out loud when I had them).

I gotta tell ya, although im sure verizon fios is better than comcast.. verizon is by no means any more reliable.

When i had their DSL (im in central NJ) not only was it only around 650 kbps of actual throughput, it was constantly going down. I remember the day it went down for 3 days as if it were tomorrow, and this is when their dsl was 49.99 a month too. Now i think theyre dsl runs around 14.95 in my area and i still wouldnt even take it. My OOL is a little more than 12x faster in actual throughput than my dsl was, and i havent had a single issue with downtime or lag! Everytime im downloading and i see my download speed break 1.6 MB/s i smile. I think im going to try OOL BOOST next month to, doubles the speed for an extra 10$ a mo.... 30 mbps D x 3 (or 5?) up!

I feel you pain though brother. It should be illegal have such poor services. Gotta love that "service not guaranteed" disclaimer at the bottom of their commercials LMAO.

There's a topic on dslreports that's now 23 pages long - there's supposedly a Comcast tech person who's saying all customers are safe. There's alot of people who DON'T believe him - and I'm one of them.

noct3rn4l, I briefly had verizon DSL and it was really really awful. And we're about 5 blocks from the substation. The up/down was insanely slow, service went out more than it didn't and their only answer was "reset the modem" no matter what you called in for. Drove me completely insane, then tried to make it impossible for me to cancel the service.

If you're talking about Comcast's "Boost" ... that's not an across the board, will always be that fast - it's an initial boost, then it slows down to "normal". The damned "up to" language cheeses me off, as does the "service not guaranteed" ... what the heck are we paying for?

I think it's pretty damn funny myself! I'm a comcast customer (no other choice) and after being fucked by them on a monthly basis ($73/mo!) it's good to see them fucked with for a change. Oh, and nice bong! :D

They took away email from Comcast users for hours. Not exactly rectifying Comcast's "shitty service"

Damnit! Why can Verizon's FioS be available in my area so I can switch from this crappy provider!

I'm very happy with my DSL service but amen on getting FioS. The only areas here that have it available are Malibu and Hermosa Beach.

What Verizon, the rest of LA is too much money for you guys?

Yea, me too. On a good day I get ~13Mb/down, 1.7Mb/up with standard service. This is a far cry from Roadrunner when it first came out in NJ. Then I had 2Mb/down, 768Kb/up, if I was lucky.

god i love Optimum Online =]

The only time I had cable was Roadrunner (now Comcast) ten years ago. After six months of service, packet loss came into the equation and it was absolutely unbearable. Quake 2 was impossible to play well anymore. I switched to DSL and haven't looked back.

Well, until FioS comes along, then I'll look back. :)

I was thinking of FioS but with my current service I couldn't justify it.

Haha, the interview ditzilla posted is awesome...

EBK slept for an hour Wednesday night; Defiant for 20 minutes. Even as the attack was in progress, the hackers began to feel the weight of their actions. Both say they've been raided by law enforcement before. "I slept in my clothes, because the last time they came, I was in my underwear with my dong hanging out and shit," says Defiant.

No, im absolutely not referring to Comcast's Boost. Im referring to Optimum Online Boost (Cablevision; Central NJ).

Advertised speed is 15 Mbps DWN, 2 Mbps UP

Here's a SS of actual (as of 5 mins ago):
[ http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/173/n0ctspeeduw2.jpg ] <3 OOL.

thats regular too, OOL Boost would be double that. A friend of mine has it; he gets 28 down. OOL Boost and their Triple Play is what inspired Comcast and all these other cable companies to jump on the bandwagon, except OOL is as advertised. Id have to say im one satisfied customer!

I don't get what these guys are thinking, oh wow, you hacked (cracked) a website... go you.

I am not very sympathetic to comcast, however, I do recognize that things such as this are the reasons why we pay so much for thier service and why we get limitations such as bandwidth.

HEHE I'll FIND a way to justify it :p I can't wait I am soo sick if my upload being cap'd I can't stand waiting on ISO's to download from my pc at home while I'm at work.

I'm glad comcast got hacked. Never have liked them, I remember when their local rep came to talk to us at this job I had. We started the meeting with 30 minutes of "Umm why does your service never work?" or someone would ask every 5 minutes "Why is my internet never working".
