On July 31st it was reported that HBO had "recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information." Now the hackers have launched their website called WinterLeak, where they claim to have stolen 1.5 terabytes of data, and have uploaded it for anyone to download. In an email to Mashable, someone claiming to be the attacker stated "[We] have access to their Internal Network, Emails, technical platforms, and database and got precious stuff that blaze your eyes."
While having GoT hacked and released early is newsworthy, I honestly do not think that it matters nearly as much as the claimed accounts and databases that have possibly been compromised, or the claim that the hackers continue to have access. While HBO is downplaying the event, it will be interesting to see what happens from here.
The uploaded data what hackers claim includes unreleased episode 3 and 4 of popular TV series Games of Thrones Season 7 and its script, episode 1, 2 and 3 of Ballers’s season 3, Episode 1 and 2 of upcoming comedy series Barry, unreleased Episode 2 and 3 of Room 104 TV series, episode 2 of Season 2 of TV series Insecure.
