[H] Weekend Project

Great job Steve. I taught in a district that had computer labs in the elementary schools and by the time they set up a new batch of computers they were outdated the first time they used them. They had full time computer aides that help students and teachers and I was always in the labs during my break bugging them about the latest computer I had built. Of course the ladies always responded "why do you need that much power?" They just didn't get it! Keep up the good work!
 
Ah, good old computer lab... I remember back in the 5th... those lovely Apples, pretty much nothing to my father's TI-94a
 
That is an excellent idea! My mind would've been blown if we would've had anything close to a rig like that in school. I graduated in 2003, and the most sophisticated class I had was a Cisco Networking class, where the router's CPU speeds probably matched the client desktops we were using!

Very nice, and very nice of everyone involved to donate this kind of stuff.. Looking at all the boxes it makes me wish I could afford a brand new rig to assemble/mod. I suppose I could tear my computer apart and pretend. Paint it a new color while I'm at it.
 
Wow, awesome stuff Steve! I'm working on 30+ pages of writing due next week. :eek: Not too experienced myself with only one rig built entirely on my own, but wish I could be there helping you out. :)
 
If you were local Steve, I'd pop by and help you wrench on some PCs. I wonder if we could do something like this but on a larger scale... maybe a sponsor a school process once a year. I think it is important to get our youth into computers.

Well, if you want to get technical, the product placement here shows you that these are companies that back projects that help kids. EVERY single company you see here volunteered (we did not solicit anyone) products for the project.

If I was going to spend my money on a company, it will be a company that donates to kids.

There are far worse ways to spend money than to buy equipment like this and learning how it works and use it. Learning about computers has provided me a decent career with decent living and giving me back WAY more than I spend on it, though I should spend less!:p

Ya there is a few things that I sent you personally but ya for the most part everything you see came from companies that Steve or I contacted.

Every company that I have dealt with is behind this project :)

Steve got me hooked a couple of years ago when he was in Alaska. I had boxes and boxes of stuff just laying around, and after so tight packing and $250 in shipping it was all gone. :cool: Of course that just made room for more stuff to collect but heck its worth it. Steve does a great job at this and I am happy to do whatever I can to help him. :)

You are being too modest sir, you are a phenomenal help and it shows a lot of character on your part that you are the only non-company out there helping the kids. :D
 
Ya but you are the one doing all the work.

The hardest thing I have to do is drive to the post office:D
 
I'm taking a Windows Basic course at my community college (Glendale, CA). The computers in my class have a C2D E8400 and 4GB of RAM, video being done by the integrated Q43/45.

I'm stunned :eek:.
