Long time [H] reader Chris Barger sent me a picture of a PC brought in for repairs (by a lady) because it didn’t have video signal. I thought some of you guys might be able to take a look at this picture and figure out what the problem is. Hit the comments link below to share your ideas.

In the imortal words of Frank Barone, Holy Crap!

Dude....wtf?

I've seen the little screw mounts to hold the connector in place come loose but...jeez, that takes the cake.

sucks we can't edit.. darn you w1ng you beat me by a few seconds!!

that's a strong lady :p

note to self: unscrew the bolts before removing the video cable

Wow... Thats impressive. I'm at a loss of words at how to describe my amazement.

wow it takes alot to rip one of those things off.... how did she manage to do that?

Is that what happened? I can't even identify that as a video port. Did someone rip off a cable that was screwed it or something? geez.....

I've seen stuff like this two or three times here at the shop where I work. As a matter of fact right now, I've got one in here because for whatever reason, somebody sprayed some liquid in the PSU and then later somebody else turned it on and of course the PSU arced and burned out. Luckily everything else in the unit is fine and it powered on fine with another PSU hooked up.

Such strong hands..... I am scared for her hubby........ ;)

"Note to self: When throwing boyfriend's computer out of window remember to disconnect from TV."

Well a buddy had one brought into his shop when the couple disconnecting the PC by yanking on the video cable just like the power... and took the whole video header right off the board...

Well the LEDs are off so there's no power to the machine. That's why there's no video. Duh.

That's awesome, but I was actually expecting to see a dead possum curled up on top of the videocard like I saw in a car once. :D

my those are some pretty big hands grandma...

why the better to rip out vga plugs with...

WTF! I've never seen anything like that.....no clue on how to repair the input though. Out of curiosity, it looks like the computer is a dell...a moderately old one as well. What is also odd is that there is a missing IO cover...

LOL I've seen some crazy things but how do you rip one of those off? I've tried and its not easy.

The video port works perfectly fine, it's the way you have to connect to it that isn't easy :D

I had a guy bring his daughter's computer to me one time too just like that. Someone's been takin the Super Soldier Serum!

oh, I get about 3 of them a year in the shop I am at.

Usually they say 'the monitor fell off the table and yanked it out, can you fix it??'

well, monitors normally have 3-6 foot cables, and most desks/tables are only 30 or so high.. did the monitor fall out a window??

One customer did say that 'they didn't know it was screwed in, and just walked away from the desk with it, and it pulled the monitor off the back of the desk (cable went around back side of desk appearently), then broke the connector off'

Wow, was she a "Miss built like a brick shit house" body builder?

or was she unable to unhook the monitor so she drove away with it hanging out the car?

I'm surprised that the DB15 cover stripped like that before it ripped the solder points off the motherboard.

How do you fix that?

Cut away the remaining connector and install a video card?
-or-
Send it back to the manufacturer?
-or-
Attempt to solder on a new VGA plug...if possible?
:D

The video looks integrated...need a whole new motherboard for that. I doubt someone will take the time to fix that except for the manufacturer if they want to refurb it.

MAN HANDS

::shudder::

i lol'd, then i cried, then i peed a little

not only strong enough to tear the plug off, but that must have bee a death grip on the cord as well

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's a Dell too, based on the way the fan grill looks and how the fan is attached without screws. Somehow, I doubt that's covered under their warranty policy...
