I will pretty much being all out on this build as my chosen processor costs $1000, after spending that kind of money theres no reason to skimp on anything else.

So what I could use is suggestions on the best possible hardware given what I already have and plan on buying.

What I have:
  • Case: HAF 932
  • PS: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
  • HDs: Intel X-25m(system and adobe cs5), 3TB of other drives for games/storage for a total of 6 drives.

What I want:
  • Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Gulftown 3.33GHz 6 x 256KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor
  • Mobo capable of using this 980x to its full potential, sata6g and usb3 a bonus
  • 12GB of Ram
  • Single Video card no sli or xfire

This system will be used heavily for video editing and lots of rendering in After Effects, likely a good deal of 3d as well. That is my reason for choosing the 980x as it looks like it slaughters every else on the market for what I'm going to be doing with it. Your helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated.

edit:
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? Video editing/rendering
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? $2.5k before tax
3) Where do you live? CA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, MOBO, Video
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W
6) Will you be overclocking? Yes
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have? 30"
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? ASAP
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? Raid, SATA6G and USB3 a plus.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Yes 64bit

Score.

I recommend the following then:
$1000 - Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition CPU
$300 - Asus P6X58D Premium Intel X58 ATXMotherboard
$350 - 2 x Corsair CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM
$390 - XFXHD-587X-ZNF Radeon HD 5870 1GB PCI-E Video Card
---
Total: $2040 plus tax and shipping.

Went with Amazon.com as much as possible to save some money on tax since CA residents do not get charged tax by Amazon.com

Any reason to not go for the cheaper but just as well performing Gigabyte UD3R?

Heh fair enough. I ran with your suggestions and pulled the trigger on the ram and mobo:
$230 Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D Dominator 6 GB 3 x 2 GB PC3-12800 1600MHz 240-Pin DDR3 Core i7 Memory Kit
$240 ASUS LGA 1366 - Intel X58 - True USB 3.0 & SATA 6Gb/s - ATX Motherboard P6X58D-E

Upgraded the ram and went with the E edition of that board since its $60 cheaper and has all the same features minus the stupid express gate thing.

Hmm upping the RAM was a bit waste of money actually. There's no difference whatsoever between the Dominator RAM and the cheaper Corsair RAM real world performance wise. At least the more expensive mobo was more justifiable.

Alright makes sense, I canceled the ram for now and purchased a very fine water cooling setup.

why not get 3 x 4gb ram for 12 gb?
that way you can always go to 24 gb if you need to.
