please guys help me

ok..
IBM thinkpad ??? (model)
reformatting....you mean reinstalling? (formatting doesnt copy any files)
using what kind of CD? original hologram, burned copy?
installing what? Linux, Windows, DOS ?

Its plugged in? Overheating? Maybe blow the dust out with some compressed air?

The question is a bit vague, but I think what you're seeing is normal.

When you install Windows XP, you format the hard drive, copy the files necesssary to install Windows, then the computer automatically restarts. Just make sure you either don't press a key to boot from the CD, or take the CD out of your computer until the rest of the setup launches.

Of course, I could be completely misunderstanding what you're trying to say. Some more details on the exact type of computer you have, and what you're doing would be nice. :)

yo my bad...

ok.

reinstalling xp sp3

ibm thinkpad a31

using a copied xp(not orginal)

and it was getting real hot, so i did put it on a fan. so it isnt overheating anymore.

and it is not restarting, it is shuting off.

*the copy files finishes, then gives me another screen with 3 options, but before i can even read the options, it shuts off

Please don't SHOUT in thread titles, and please try to make your topic descriptive. "HELP ME" doesn't cut it.
