It's already on sale in some countries early, you should be able to buy them tomorrow.
Thanks, here comes the refresh button! I hope it's closer to $250 than $280.

That's not to bad...I expected to purchase a 6870 around $250, give or take a few dollars. Give it a month or so and it will probably settle around $230 ~ 240
Well if they are like the 5000 series probably going to go up in price
Wow i cant beleive anyone listens to anything they say on guru3d, there So BIASED and PAID * cough*cough* by Intel and nvidia its not even funny. there custom rigs ppl send in or always i love intel and nvidia and hate amd\ati BS is SO obviuos. There site is worse than tomshardware and toms is pretty heavy on teh nvidia\intel paid weekly posts and ad's
Eh everybody claims biases here and there. But it's all we have to go on for now =p unless you happen to have benchmarks of the cards? Anyways we well knew that the 6870 and 6850 where not going to be ground breaking performers and would be priced accordingly.Wow i cant believe anyone listens to anything they say on guru3d, there So BIASED and PAID * cough*cough* by Intel and nvidia its not even funny. there custom rigs ppl send in or always i love intel and nvidia and hate amd\ati BS is SO obvious. Despite the original naming confusion, the fact that these are the new midlevel parts and they perform on par or better than last gen high end with less power while on the same process is pretty impressive.
I'm looking forward to the [H] review posted at midnight tonight.

Just finished reading the Crossfire review-- did ATI/AMD actually improve/fix Crossfire performance in the 6000-series?
Or, am I seeing things?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...01&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20 Newegg has them up cheapest 6850 $179 Cheapest 6870 $230 if these cards are as good as they seem to be Nvidia is in trouble.
Yeah i wonder how long they'll have them in stock.Those prices are wonderful! Must resist 6870, 6950 and 6970 need to get here like tomorrow.
I sort of agree. in fact I said something similar about this as well as the gtx460 when it was launched. the problem is that the 5850/5870 cards only went up in price so consumers are used to seeing pretty high prices for their given performance. sadly any improvement at all in performance/price and people freak out and think its the deal of the decade. that being said the 6850 for $179 is not bad at all. also these cards do seem to do better in crossfire than the 5850/5870 cards so that is nice for many.IMHO, this isn't nearly as ground breaking as people are acting. At $250, the 6870 is $10 cheaper than the 5850's launch MSRP. In a year, we have marginally more performance than the 5850 at barely lower price. This is not what I consider a large advancement.
These are also not what I would call mid-range. A 4850 was easily available for $150 in July 2008 (2 weeks after launch). The 4870 later fell into the price, and the 4890 came very close to it. Over 2 years later, the best ATI can do at $150 is a 5770 which is marginally faster than a 4850.
If these cards end up being closer to $150 and $200 in the next few weeks, I will change my tune. Until then, I see a marginal improvement over the poor pricing of the 5xxx series.

the 6850 is great card for 179. it has way more overclocking headroom so if you are an overclocker then I would save 60-70 bucks and get that. when both the 6850 and 6870 are overclocked there will likely be less than 10% difference.

Yup, ordered the ASUS 6870 about 15 minutes ago.Can you arm chair analysts stop and read the thread?
Cheapest 6870 is $239 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125347
I see your also a victim of the AMD naming scheme:
5770=6850
5830=6870
5850=6950
5870=6970
You can't compare the 6870 to the 5850 when judging performance improvement. The 6870 is an increase over the 5830.
When it comes to pricing, it's a little high but the cards are in the same class performance wise as the GTX 460/470 which were more expensive until the recent price drop i.e. 460/$230 - 470/$300.
so the 6870 is slightly better than the 5850?
the shaders don't always translate linearly. the cards will oc to within 50mz of each other from what I have seen so far. I can almost guarantee you that about 10% is all the difference will be when both are oced to their max. the differnce between the 5870 and 5850 was only 5% under the same scenario.At the same clock speed, a 6870 still has 15% more shaders. The 6850 overclocked would need to have a 5% higher clock speed than the 6870 overclocked to get near the 10% difference you are hoping for.
I am over simplifying things here, but IMHO you are overestimating the abilities of the 6850.
