Well i dont know if this is the proper section for this, or if its already been posted before, but i did this mod a couple months ago and figured i'd post up the review i made for it. Enjoy:

..:Turning your XBOX controller into a USB device that can be used on a computer::.
Well since the posts on this forum were kind of shady, so I took the liberty of making up a guide, its straight and to the point, but this mod is quite simple so it doesn’t need to be more than that.

Ok let’s begin:

Use this pin read out for reference:

xboxusb.jpg

Before:
( Purchased from radioshack for the total of 35$CAN)

1.jpg

The Splices:
(Match the colors and leave out the yellow)
2.jpg

After:
(It looks Ugly, but if u actually cared about that you can buy an electricians box from radio shack, and hide everything in that so it’s a straight line of cord, instead of the V)

1.jpg

Finished product:
The Splice looks ugly, but who cares:

3.jpg

Drivers Used:
XBCD Drivers. Why? because they rock and there regularly updated.

SITE: http://phaseone.sytes.net/

And that’s basically that, the whole thing takes no more than 15 minutes to do, and you save a bunch of money making your own kick ass controller rather than shelling out a whole bunch of money for a controller with dual analogue tons of buttons a POV hat and rumble.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

EDIT: XCTRL driver picture deleted since there outdated and crappy.

Thats a pretty good guide...I am looking for a PC controller and am probably going to make one...Thanks..

How is the compatibility in games? That's why I've always used MS Sidewinders:

WOOT: 7000 posts.

Just a note. Microsoft tends to follow correct color code standards, but never trust that third part manufactures will. if your dealing with a third party controller, cable, or extention be sure to verify the pinouts!

I have had one of these for a while now and it works great. Mine was a knockoff controller (MADCATZ I believe) and the color coding was correct.

What I did instead of splicing the cable in the middle I removed the entire cable and replaced it with the cable from my old Logitech USB mouse. Just soldered everything back together and I now have a controller that looks stock but has a different end on it.

I had a third party controller where something was reversed. Never got it working. :(

Still saving up for a used XBox controller. I've got drivers ready for it... ;)

could you use the controller for ut2k4 demo?

i have a bunch since i was dumpster diving and the store had a box of them out back. [gamestop]:D

Damn. I wish the mall security guys wern't so fucking anal. I'd go grab a bunch myself. ;) Although, the local guys tend to resell them instead of chucking them.

Game support is superb, it works in all my games. And if you come across a game it wont work in, you can just post up to redcloud and he will fix it.

these guides have been all over the place. while nice, i have a different twist on it.

go to ebay and buy an xbox controller ports and mod your comp so that it routes the internal usb headers to the xbox ports. you can mount the header on your probably unused 3.5inch bay faceplate.

note, you will have to mod the xbox port internal header to fit the usb.

Seen guides to guide people thorugh that. ;) It's actually pretty easy, at least as the guides showed...

I don't have any on hand, but I'll see if I can find a few later this evening. :) It's been a while since I've searched for it, the guides might not be around anymore.

Alright...Thanks in advance for doing that...

I have been looking for the "electricians box" so I can make this cable as clean as possible...What does this thing look like?

don't work for me.

i have the drivers installed and when i open the config program it sees my controler and i can move around the little + sign and when i hit buttens it will light up. but it will not work in ut2k4 that is the only game i have right now. any thoughts?

Strange. I found about 2 guides, but the picutres wouldn't load. :p Thanks for beating me to the punch. :)

if you guys are having trouble getting the xbox controller to detect properly, jump to redclouds site and post a message on his forums, he ususally gets back within a half hour.

Sometimes you need to edit the driver and add a few lines of code (its very simple) to get it to work, i know that what i had to do to get it working on windows 98, everything went smoothly on windows xp tho.

My controller was either fried or had a different pinout. I don't have it anymore, otherwise I'd try switching the data + and data - lines. Windows never detected it as an 'unknown device', or anything at all.

surgeon general's warning: Using a controller in ut2k4 demo will result in you getting OWNED.

controllers are great for racing games, flight sims, etc though.

why not ut2k4?
Halo is a much slower paced game which was designed for the console
AND
everyone you're playing against is also using a controller, so they have the same handicap.

Just trust me on this one.

FPS + controller == handicap

Console + FPS == me not playing that FPS on console. :p

indeed...
you know, I always thought it would be neat if they made it possible for people to play Halo PC vs. Halo XBOX (with Xbox Live, you'd think it would be feasible), and we'd settle this issue for once and for all!:D

Well, you could theoretically connect a keyboard and mouse to an Xbox. You would have to run XBox linux, and that means no XBox live.

I'd be interested to see how UT2K3 PC would do against Xbox UT2K3. :p

anyone know how to do this with ps2?

From what I've seen so far, you need to buy one of the adapters for it off the net to get a PS2 controller to work on a PC. :(

Yeah, you need an adaptor, or you could make one. Just run it though google and you'll get a plethora of information. Or you could go get a USB adapter, which ive even seen at radioshack.

is it possible to do the same splice with a playstation controller? if so does anyone know where i can get the drivers?

last I new all the buttons but the triggers worked, could all work now though, havnt checked into it for awhile
