Ok so my computer is not too slow, but its not fast at all.

My current spec is:

Processor - Intel Celeron 325 - Socket 478

Motherboard - Lite-On Tech 08FCh

RAM - 1280mb DDR Single Channel PC2100 & 3200

Graphics - Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

Power Supply - Lite-On PS-5251-6LF - 250W

HD - 20GB & 80GB

Ok so what im wanting is more RAM, but my MOBO is so anciant it is expensive! Im also wanting better speed so didnt know if I should get a new processor!

I have 3 other computers lying around and these are some spare parts I have which i was wondering if i could add any to improve my system!

Processors:

AMD 27067

AMD Athlon axda2600dkv3d

Intel Celeron 800

(Now i know they may not fit my MOBO but i also some more MOBOS here:

MOBO's

DFI CW35-S

BONA BN793

AS ROCK ATA133

Power Supplys

FSP 150W

MERCURY 300W

EZ COOL 400W

Now this is all the spares I have, i was wondering if anyone knows whether any of these are better than my current setup I have a feeling that maybe the AMD Athlon, The AS ROCK and the EZ cool are all better than my current setup? These are all also together in a case ATM so if that is true it shouldnt be too hard to swap over, will my RAM be compatible on that MOBO?

Thanks alot you guys also could you recooment and MOBO/Processor combo or seperate that is £60 or less as this is my budget for the minute, i saw some i3's on ebay for £30 so i was thinking maybe one of those?

Im a noob to the whole upgrading hardware but i need something a little more powerful! Thanks a bunch,

Ash

That AMD CPU would be faster than your current CPU. However I can't say ANYTHING regarding the AsRock motherboard because all you said was "AS ROCK ATA133". ATA133 is not the model number, just the storage interface it has. So cannot answer whether or not it's actually compatible with your CPU, whether or not your RAM will be compatible, etc etc. So find out the model number of that AsRock motherboard

Can't say your EZ Cool is better than the pretty shitty Lite-On since, again, you didn't list the model number.

Yeah something tells me you didn't actually see a core i3 CPU for £30. Doesn't seem plausible. In addition even if you did, £60 still wouldn't be enough since you also need to get new DDR3 RAM since none of your RAM will work any modern PC these days.

Hey thanks for the quick and imformative reply! I won't be home to look at the asrock until tomorrow so I will update the thread again

Thanks again

I think the motherboard model is a asrock k7s41gx by looking on the net, will post the psu model tomorrow!

OMG I read the top post & had to look at the date to see if someone necro'd a 10 year old thread.

OP You are in big need of a new system.

Haha yeah well the amd pc was bought about 8years ago brand new so its pretty out dated, however it doesn't run too bad! And I've got a laptop coming soon which will be much more up to date,

Oh and the model of psu is PS 5251 - 6LF

Sorry its all so old but I canr afford to be upgrading desktops and a new laptop! Cheers again

So far, use the AMD CPU and motherboard. PSU wise, I can't find any info at at all about the EZ Cool. The problem here is that all four of the PSUs you've listed are made by manufacturers known for making shitty PSUs.

So honestly, go for the EZ Cool since it's of higher wattage and hope for the best.

Ok well thanks for the replies, it makes it easy to do a straight swap as the amd asrock and ez cool are all together so. Also what would be the best processor that could fit the asrock?

Thanks again

Sorry for the double post but also what is the best processor I could upgrade to? cheers

With your current hardware? Nothing. Your system is simply too old and replacement or even upgrade parts won't be too cheap.

Hi again, thank you for the help so far!

I've run into a problem though, the asrock motherboards max ram is 2gb where as the lite on is 4gb, can I switch the amd athlon into the liteon motherboard? Or will I have to just use my current motherboard and processor with the higher watt psu? Cheers guys

Your Lite-On motherboard is completely incompatible with ANY AMD CPU.

Ok well if cheap enough I don't mind buying a new mobo to fit the amd, but if it won't improve performance much I won't bother, any one of these worth getting?

Ebay:
320648249429
170596652651
320648550290

Thanks again for all of the help I really appreciate it oh and if I decide to just keep my current mobo and cpu would the ezcool psu compatible with the liteon?

Cheers

None of those are worth buying. Not sure about the Ezcool compatibility.
