I have the 970 in sli and I reach 3.9 Vram in shadow of mordor. I never get the stuttering that some users are reporting. I think people getting the stuttering were having other issues and most people that were complaining didn't have issues in the first place but just complained because of the opportunity.
I sold my 290 as I got tired of the loud fan, heat and power consumption. I was able to score an Asus Strix 970 on newegg as an open box deal and haven't regretted it for a second. Great card, I wouldn't steer anyone away from getting on themselves.
