GTX970.. worth it?

Same here and I agree 100%. My 970s consistently go above 3.5 without issue
 
I sold my 290 as I got tired of the loud fan, heat and power consumption. I was able to score an Asus Strix 970 on newegg as an open box deal and haven't regretted it for a second. Great card, I wouldn't steer anyone away from getting on themselves.
