GTX590 $799

Shit the way nvidia has been doing prices, you better buy one at that price right away before they announce the MSRP of $899.99 LOL
 
Having only 3GB total of RAM and not 3GB per GPU is kind of lame. Price is what I expected. If nvidia thinks theirs is better its always atleast a 100 bucks more. Can't wait for the [H]ard review. Hopefully they do one with a 590 overclocked vs a 6990 overclocked. Stock clocks and voltages just doesn't show the entire pcture of these cards.
 
1.5gb effective and $800. Dumbest design for a video card in quite some time.

I agree with the above sentiment that $800 is too much for 1.5GB effective. I mean it's alright, but it's not ground-breaking for sure.

I still maintain that for the raw performance that GTX 580 SLI provides, I would like slightly more VRAM. The 6990 will be faster in stock and not much slower overclocked but will have more VRAM and cost less. The new uneven VRAM chips on the GTX 550 might be a sign in the direction I'd like to see them go on the GTX 590 later on. If they used uneven memory chips to give it 2.5GB of VRAM it would own for $800. But it's not a killer card to me.
 
The uneven memory of the GTX550 only works because it's a low performance lower end card where the amount of memory is used more as a marketing bullet point than for performance. That GPU will be shading power limited before it runs out of memory.
On a high end GPU capable of using all the memory it can get, it will only create a bottleneck.

don't worry, the max res most reviewers will use will be either 1920x1200 or 2560x1600, so VRAM won't be as bad. I don't think a single reviewer will do a launch Surround review.

Edit: I'll also add this. The lack of Vram on this card makes you think that nvidia is hoping that these will be benched on a single screen setup.

I know there has been some trickery going around, and to be honest I don't really know the source of that screen. Just found it from another forum.

I had a suspicion NV was making some weird leaks before, but now I don't know what that would do for them since the 6990 is already out.

Sperm from a nobel peace prize winner goes for less that. Seriously the Gtx 580 squashes everything you throw at it. Now how many monitors can you hook up to it? Would be a complete mind F*** buying one and to find it still only support two monitors lol

I think Nvidia is going to try the same trick AMD is doing.

Having a normal stock mode, and a super duper overclocking voiding warrenty mode.

Otherwise I do not think it will beat the 6990....
 
No way it will loose to the 6990. Tesselation on the nvidia cards are better. But Im puzzled why Amd and nvidia released these monsters when their current top cards was ripping any game apart. people I advise you to hold a bit on to your gpus. Pci-e 3.0 are actually going to use the bandwidth with almost a 0 overhead. So the sli/cf setup will get a big boost from it

about what? Pci-e? Or the 590 beating the 6990? I don't care I don't get dough out of selling these cards. No one gets discount being a dedicated fan we all pay the same price.

LOL just find the benchmarks of 2 580 GTX's in sli clocked at the 590 GTX specs.

And BTW, it takes more money for Nvidia to produce 1 GPU to AMD 2 GPU's.

IMO Making money > losing money

QFT +1 all.

The 6990 performs fast enough with good scaling and 2GB to equal 570 SLI, and two GTX580 @ ~620/950 is -14% and -5%, so I don't put money on either being faster, but AMD is also in a much better position on the economic side. I have a thing for efficiency.

EDIT: BTW I'd like to point out, what AMD is doing to nVIDIA was being done by nVIDIA to ATi back in 2005-06

R520 (X1800XT) = 320M transistors
R580 (X1900XT(X)) = 350M transistors

G70 = 300M transistors
G71 = 280M transistors

The outcome: AMD purchased ATi. More and more it seems to me that efficiency becomes the real winner.
