GTX260 gets backed

Yesterday my trusty 2 year old GTX260 bricked out on me after several days of purple artifacts and BSOD's. I run a dual monitor setup and the purple artifacts only showed up on the screen which the GTX260 was hooked into, the other is hooked up to my main GTX285. I was only used for this and physx for the 6 months or so. It had been part of a 3-sli setup but that should not have been an issue I think

After reading up on oven backing cards and a friend who succesfully baked his 7950GTX Go notebook card (I still think he's nuts about backing a mobile GPU) I gave it shot.

8 minutes at 200 degrees celcius and guess what it's back up and running, even did several stability tests...No problem it seems. :D

But I'm gonna give ATI a try next time, this should not happen on a 2 year old high end model...

Got a professional oven reflow machine at work gonna see if I can talk the tech into running mine lol.

Glad it worked, but your logic is flawed. I don't care who made the card, Cards fail no matter who makes them.

I'm sure they do, I blew several ATi X1900 up a few years ago, those things we're bad OC'er so I pretty much decided to give Nvidia a try afterwards and buy high end cards at that time, 350 euro's a piece for Asus GTX260's when they came out. Never needed to OC em and they never ran very hot to, not even in a 3-way SLI. It's a shame really...

And looking at the state of nvidia's endless rebranding and the way to hot fermi cards, I don't wanna risk putting one into my case, besides ATi is going cheap these days :)
