Hey guys, i have a GTS250 video card right now, looking for a low budget upgrade for 3 screens. i am an gamer, but i really need the extra realestate for programming, i was hoping to buy 2 cards, find something cheap like a 460 or 560 x 2, looking to spend about 350$ ish, need this to last me 8-10 months until i upgrade to the kepler series or AMD which ever turns out to be a better combo at the time. Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions for the upgrade for my SLI?
 
1GB GTX460's are on newegg for around $140-150, not too bad of a deal imo, and much faster than 550Ti's at around the same price.
 
I would probably go for at least a 1.25-1.5 GB card though if you're going to upgrade at this point. Otherwise you might as well just wait for Kepler.

Also, check out the used forum for good deals. 2x 560 Ti 2 GB cards would be good.
 
It sounds like single-screen gaming, multi-screen work? Then he won't need 2GB cards, etc.
 
A single Radeon card will handle 3 monitors easily. $350 will score you a 6970, or you can buy something more modest like a 6870 for ~$150 after rebate (since you say you're a gamer), to save money for Kepler or ATI's 7000 series.

Exactly, although lower end games like wow id probably attemp multi screen gaming for the lulz, but i find myself requiring more space than my 2 screens, main reason(for now) is for work.

In 10 -12 months, ill be doing a massive rebuild, like, 2 x gtx 680 ( or 7990 x 2 ;) ) or 3 x gtx660 type level. Until then, id like to have something more substantial than a 4.5 year old card :rolleyes:

It might be worth noting, that i only have a 600 WATT CM PSU, now, currently i have E6400 2.13 @ 2.943 1.33V, 6 140 mm case fans, H60, and 2 hard drives.

Can i support an sli setup? Ive heard that the AMD's recent cards have a greatly reduced power consumption. 1x eyefinity card might be my only option unless id be able to support 2 x GTX460's. Id almost prefer the SLI Setup but, what are your guys opinions? Gunna do some shopping here and see what i can find. Ill check the used forums as suggested as well.
 
This XFX 6970 is only $299.99 after a $30 MIR. It's a 2GB card ... should be more than sufficient for what you're looking for to cover the next 8-10 months.

If you don't need multiscreen gaming for now, and are okay without maxing everything right now, 6870s can be had for about half the price, and should be okay until your upgrade.
 
yeah, also made the mistake in realizing that amazon doesn't ship to canada, and the canada amazon doesn't have it in stock anyways. Yeah, im kind of leaning towards the 6950 ......
its more money though, but... by the looks of it, id have to pay around 170 for each gtx460,

This is probably one of the most retarded questions ever asked, i know the eyefinity allows your desktop to be 1 large desktop, but does the eyefinity also allow you to have 3 separate screens as well?

Not really true. 460 SLI is more or less on par with a 580, which performs better than one 6950.

That said, I would not get 1 GB cards.
 
I went with the 6950 2gb. Also picked up an active display port adapter from egg as well. Shipping and all that came to around 340$, cheapest decent gtx460 i coudl find was 174$, so i saved abit of money. Also, sli scalling isn't always a direct hit, neither is eyefinity, but this will definitely last me awhile. Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.

I agree, and for $150, the GTX460 is a pretty good deal, especially two of them for the price performance ratio.
