"GT300 is basically Larrabee done wrong..."

8800GT ~= 8800GTS 512 ~= 9800GTX, then the core was shrunk to 55nm (and clocks respectively increased) for 9800GTX+ ~= GTS 250... Where the 8800GT and 8800GTS 512 sit in relation to the G80 based 8800s is a much more complicated story. I'll never forgive Nvidia the amount of time its taken me to explain that to people buying stuff from me.

Those two are mutually exclusive? I think everyone out there, including himself, and including Rahul Sood Founder of Voodoo PC think he's an idiot. And, for whatever reason, he was given the uncanny abillity to have people read a few thousand words of sludge... and people do it! willingly!

not at all, he is bright and I actually read his page because he DOES have quite a few good articles. obviously his success speaks for its self. is he an ass? absolutely. it in no way invalidates a good argument though. Is he bias against Nvidia? sure. but its hard to feel sorry for Nvidia, as your post proves they have been handing him ammo for quite some time. And to be fair he has been right enough of the time (although exaggerated) that he can't simply be dismissed. The bad chips is a good example. Did he exaggerated the problem? Yes. grossly even. Still the thing that came back to haunt Nvidia was that they grossly understated the problems.

People like to complain about how charlie treats Nvidia but I just don't have a lot of sympathy. I am not a marketing genius but if the media is bitch slapping me around just maybe I should stop doing dump and shady things? Really, lots of dirty business in the computer world so its pretty bad when you stand out like that.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, the URL to the inq needs to be added to the text filter on [H]'s vBulletin install. Nothing informative or productive ever comes from the site - with or without Fuad.
Agree. There are finer things we could be discussing based on real information. I don't know why we're always utilizing biased speculation as a springboard to any kind of discussion when that's exactly the kind of thing we should be rallying against.

how the hell would the author of the article know? this is bullshit

His success? You mean like how all G84 and G86 parts are bad? Or how he thinks Nvidia is going to suddenly go bankrupt despite having over a billion in cash and no debt? Or how about how we are going to see massive mac book failures. None of those things ever happened.

Yeah, he is definitely an unreliable source.

Brand loyalty is absolutely retarded. Decisions should be made based on the quality of the product, regardless of the brand. Quality is easily tested and measured.

Dumb ass

Ya, brand loyality is useless. I used both sides cards depending on which one was better at the time.

I bought an 8800gtx and my next vid card should be one of the next gen comming out not the current gen.

The main thing i wonder will any vid card play crysis at highest quality with 100+ fps on 1920x1200 screen size.

Even though crysis is poorly written just wondering will any vid card be fast enough to make do of even a poorly written game.

You're not going to see 100+ fps in Crysis. And it's not because it's poorly written. To make that claim you'd have to find a game that looks as good and runs faster. Good luck with that.

Those without even high school journalism classes shouldn't be writing any sort of news articles.

In regards to Nvidia being late with their releases, I don't quite think Charlie realizes the effects of the economic downturn in 2007-2008. First thing that came to my mind. It may or may not be the reason but either way, the article is incredibly unprofessional, biased, and includes a ton of bullshit; all of which I expect from most of the "inquierer's" articles.

"Given Nvidia's total lack of cost competitiveness on that node, it would be more a question of them surviving the year."

I absolutely love this quote. Nvidia has been pulling that crap with thier pricing for a while now. Nvidia still controls >60% of the market as of Q1. Somehow I don't think AMD has the money/ resources to pull off a better 40nm build when Nvidia has most of the income.

Kill yourself Charlie. You are only pleasing and fooling yourself with this FUD.

I never click the link anymore. Someone will always quote his latest ranting and he at least doesn't get a hit on his site from me. ;)

what is wrong with this Charlie guy? so what did nVidia do to him to make him so biased?

If you had read the thread this was answered. ;)

He broke NDA and released a couple of reviews early on Nvidia cards. Nvidia stopped sending him cards because he wouldn't adhear to his NDA.

You have to read between the lines with what he says. For instnace, he wasn't far off a bout the GT200 series - that it was an extremely hot large die, and that they would have to shift to 55nm fast to keep up with AMD's pricing - and it ended up correct, you just had to read through the rest of the hate he spewed

Paint with a large enough brush and we all get spattered. ;)

though I do admit that most of his stuff is hate driven towards Nvidia, I honestly don't think that he is paid by anyone, he just hates nvidia from his guts and it shows everytime he mentions anything about the green camp. I am not a fanboy of any side, I just like the best bang for my buck. I do agree with the person who said that he is an egomaniac, he will be wrong about some of it, and all that matters to him is that if he is right about may be 40% of it, and I am sure he is, because people like him don't like being entirely wrong, because he has to say something like, " I told you so". Other than that I do hate inq, becuase he has 75% bs and 25% news and that is the best case scenario.

I find this article hard to believe. While I am sure he knows what he is talking about I would think a team of Nvidia engineers would have realized all these issues by now. That is unless Nvidia is aware and just hopes the masses dont realize or care.

That site always makes me laugh. This was particularly funny: "There is a single source making up news, and second rate sites are parroting it left and right. The R870 news is laughably inaccurate, and the GT300 info is quite curious too."

That's rich coming from that site.

why is everyone saying bad stuff? i think the stuff is believable. Makes sense. Nvidia doesnt really know when they are dropping so they are dropping late and we already know they like big cores. Whats not solid here?

There was so much Green Goblin hate in that article I wouldn't be surprised if Charlie was foaming at the mouth when writing that. It was painful to read...

I think you need to read my post a little better, his success is the number of readers, the measure of any news site (trade rag or smut rag take your pick). and you might have missed "Did he exaggerated the problem? Yes. grossly even". I am not unaware of his shortcomings. I can shoot Rush Limbaugh full of holes as well but it doesn't detour from his success And like I said does do some really good work as well. the editorial he did on why the cable companies were desperate for bandwidth caps is a good example. Hardly anyone did anything but agree with that.

And as for his reliability there is an old proverb (Japanese I think) "If you believe everything you read, you better not read"

I find damn near impossible that someone can be such a tool for free. Either that, or like pxc mentioned, he has mental issues. Severe ones.

I don't think you read the article at all. NVIDIA isn't the one not knowing when they are "dropping". It's the idiot writer saying he knows that NVIDIA won't release it any time soon. At the same time, he knows that RV870 will be faster, cheaper...and so on and so forth. Not to mention that he starts by saying everyone else is wrong in their released "rumors" and he's the only correct one.

What's wrong with big cores again ? GT200 is larger than RV770 in die space (which red fans like to throw around so much for some reason, as if it harmed performance...), but it's certainly not hotter or consumes more power than any RV770 chip, especially at idle.

Really ? Please do provide those links for everything he was right. Concerning the failure "report", where are these massive failures, which he said affected not only mobile parts, but also desktops ? And in regards to mobile chips, where are these massive failures that affected ALL the chips, as he claimed, not only the ones that had the defective packaging, as was reported by credible news sources ? FYI, not all chips failed, but they could be more prone to failure, which wasn't what he wrote. There's no "between the lines" reading, just plain old BS, with no evidence to support it.

It's funny you say "computer world" and still only reference NVIDIA. Where's his report on HD 4850 having problems in iMACs ?

http://www.dailytech.com/Owners+of+...Reporting+Graphics+Problems/article14901c.htm

Or his reports on anything related to shady practices of any other company other than NVIDIA ? And if they exist, do they have the same old rhetoric of constant bashing without proof, as is the case with all the NVIDIA related ones ?

My bad, please forgive me.

I actually started reading that article a few days ago, realized it was filled with ranting, scrolled up to see that it was Charlie at it again, tried to read the rest of the article, but couldn't figure out WTF he was trying to say. Then I realized that as usual he was just ranting without his medication keeping his mental issues in check.

I must say that this rant was a bad one, though. It isn't often that he snaps like this.

Taking the article serious? Why, I'm not crazy, that's Charlie's task :p

Sure he's biased, but he's right more often than wrong. Just look at how many hundreds of millions of dollars Nvidia has had to pay out for bad chips. Companies have even extended their laptop warranties because of failing Nvidia chips.

Back up that statement, it is not just for fun we laugh at him here...

The title was just a quote from the article linked, hence the quotation marks.

I own an 8800GT, I like it, great card. I own a HD4870, I like it, also a great card.

I must say that I grow tired of Nvidia's overpriced crap and would enjoy seeing them put a gun in their mouth and pull the trigger.

Would benefit us in the long run when they are humbled, get their shit together and start bringing out some smart cards.

You never know, Charlie just might be right this time.

What overpriced crap do you speak of? Other than the initial GT200 launch they haven't existed

Sure he's right on the money. Like the time he said *ALL* G92 GPUs were defective. Oh wait.....................

Don't forget how they are suppose to be going bankrupt any day now..... And yet they still have no debt and over a billion in cash...

Details, details... As long as one wishes fervently enough, it's bound to happen some day, right? :p

Thank you. I really wish there was more professionalism and an attempt to have less journalistic bias ... :(

but if you buy a $400-600 GPU for ripping DVDs to your Ipod, Nvidia has a card for you.

LMAO on that and pretty much the whole article!

P.S. I'm running a Nvidia card in my gaming PC too so don't flame too hard. :)

I'm gonna laugh if Larrabee ends up trashing ATi and nVidia. I actually want that to happen. It will force ATi and nVidia to work harder.
