I wanna get a laptop :D

After building this PC and learning so much with it, I understand now that I don't even begin to use it for the reasons I built it. Not even close. I write papers and browse the web. HA. Not even close.

So... Is there any advice that can be given to me? I plan on selling my PC. Trying for a sale on whole on here or Ebay, (probably Ebay... Could probably get more for it there). Any advice on packing and shipping? Nuances of the market that could be shared?

And most importantly, what's up with the Portable PC market right now? I haven't really kept up with it. The only brand I really know is Acer, Sony, Toshiba, and Lenovo. What's the sweet spot?

Any help would be appreciated... I'd probably like to keep it as cheap as possible, while still being relatively new. Maybe a Core 2 Duo if it isn't too expensive. Maybe an X2 possibly.

GFX isn't a big issue, (IGMA 900 still sucks) but I will watch movies on it. Encode movies and rip them to dvd(s). BTW, where is the post that has a link too the big article discussing mobile graphics? Anyone have that?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S.
-----I had like a whole 3 pages written about my reasons for doing this. So for those who can't fathom someone doing this, please don't offer your opinion as too not selling my desktop. I'm firm... Firm like so much viagra :p

Here's the link for the mobile graphics cards:

Right now Core 2 Duo is the best performing mobile processor out there. Actually you can get a laptop with Core 2 Duo for less than $1000 depending on the vendor. Dell and Toshiba I know for sure release Core 2 Duo laptops for less than $1000.

I'll be sure to look into that. I know my desktop stuff well and I know that the C2D is THE monster chip right now, so I assumed that the mobile solution of the C2D was just as able. I assumed, however, that the price on it would be killer when coupled with at LEAST 1gig of ram and a decent sided HDD.

Thanks for the link BTW

Labtop I found on the EGG with C2D is really a smaller HDD then I wanted...

These are some of the ones I was looking for.

C2D 'top
COMPAQ AMD 'top
HP AMD 'top

A look at a new Dell Home E1505 gets you this:

Intel® 1.66GHz Core™ 2 Duo T5500
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Free upgrade to Windows Vista)
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife
1GB DDR2 Ram
120GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW)
256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory (128MB Discrete, 128MB Shared)
--
Total: $957 plus Tax and S&H

It has a bigger hard drive and a graphics card capable of running some of the latest games at decent settings. Just something to look at.

Wow... For under a grand that is nifty... It really all depends on what I get for my desktop...

If I get a good amount for it then Ill be able to get a better laptop while putting more toward my car.

I'm thinking about being able to maybe get 12-1500 for it... 1500+ would be optimal as I can buy the laptop and then put the extra towards a car.

Check out the newly released Dell E1501 as well if you don't mind AMD. You can get it with a Turion X2 for under 900 and it comes with integrated ATI graphics.

I'll take a look. But IGMA is NOT a selling point for me

And I'll probably get MUCH less for my PC then I want :)

And that E1501 doesn't look to be the same caliber as the E1505. With a C2D I could cut out the GFX card and put it that much farther from 1K

What about asus or sager? I think the sagers are more 17" gaming machines .. but that was along time ago. U must check!

www.pctorque.com ----------> sagers
www.powernotebooks.com ------> asus, sager, compal..more i think
www.gentechpc.com -----> mainly asus
www.geared2play.com ----> mainly asus

I dont like dell, probably because most of their lappies have light leakage from the inspiron series. I dunno maybe they fixed it. But my friend has horrible light leakage and he says it doesnt bother him :confused: :confused:

Those links you posted seem to be for more gaming then anything else. The majority of the reason I am doing this is because I don't game like I used too.

And a Macbook is FAR removed from my pricerange >< Otherwise <3

Check the Apple refurbs. Standard MacBooks for under a grand. Often they come with some upgrades too, more memory etc.. than was advertised.

Therein lies the problem. 13in screen. 80gig HDD... Less then a Gig of ram

"512MB memory (2x256MB SODIMMs)
60GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive"

For $899 I can get a much better PC Laptop

Avoid the Macbooks anyway, they are plagued with problems, and for the money they are just not worth it, unless you NEED OS X.

Check out the Alienware m5550 as well, very nice laptop for $999 to start, im using one right now :)

Gaming rocks on it.
