Sometimes (VERY RANDOM) when I'm playing Grid, there's a slow down. This IS NOT a drop in FPS, the frame rate stays normal. It's like the CPU/RAM are trying to catch up or something. Very weird....

Has anyone else had this issue? HELP, it's driving me NUTS!!
 
Yeah I've had that, seems to come and go. Only started happening when I moved to a core2duo setup from an Athlon64.

Is the problem you describe like the game will pause for a split second and then will suddenly go really fast for an equal split second as the frames 'catch up'. Is that what you're getting?
 
It's really difficult to explain...

It seems to "lag" for a second, but I know for sure it's not the video cards. It feels like it's "loading" something...
I don't know how else to describe it...
 
Same Problem here, its as if you went sooooo fast, that time slowed, must a be a shift in the space time continuum. In all seriousness though, I get the same issue, its quite annoying frankly.

I'm getting hte exact same problems as you spine. Upgraded from an Athlon X2 to a Core Quad. Very interesting.
 
Can you try using either RivaTuner or EVGA's Precision to display on screen core/memory speeds when this occurs?
Just thinking it's possible the cards are going into throttle down speeds.

From my experiance, Nvidia cards do not throttle. Not with official drivers and support anyway. You can change fan speed, but its completely static and doesnt change on load/temp. Not sure about GT200 chips... like your 280...
 
Sort of I guess...

I'm assuming that from what I've read (not just here) that it's something to do with CPU throttling in the BIOS.

The problem with that is, it's disabled on my rig. (see sig)

Hell, I wonder if Codemasters even knows about this...??
 
I play GRID regularly and I haven't experienced that with the system in my sig. Have you updated to the latest version?
 
I have slow down on night races at 2560x1600.:D

I've had the same thing very occasionally on my old and new gfx cards.
Running E8400, old card 8800GT, new card GTX260, X38 mobo, 4GB, XP32
Its never happened enough to bug me though.
