I'm running an E6600 and a 975X Motherboard with crap for graphics right now (x1900xt)

I had picked up a used video card and re-sold it.

I can score a used 5870 for about 300 and save worry about upgrading the CPU later.

I can buy a used 5850 for around 230 and do the same.

I can do 5770 crossfire for 230 ish and same with the CPU.

Eventually I'll have to get a better cpu, but that's a luxury and I feel guilty spending money on these kinds of things knowing that money could be helping some poor family somewhere. I need to do it on the tightest budget possible.

I game and 1920x1200 and would like to run FFXIV decently.
 
I'd take the 5850 over the 5770 crossfire. I don't know if anything will run FF decently though haha
 
5850 over the xfire setup.... At your resolution, you might as well go with the 5850 on a budget.
 
I bought the 5850. I hope I am pleased!

And yeah, even the GTX260 I had for a little while was heavily taxed in FFXIV. It ran though, ran well enough to play.

Well, a stock HD5850 solidly whoops a GTX285, so there is good hope this card can run it well enough. If that fails, just clock it back to HD5870 speeds :cool:
 
I run that resolution with a single 5850 OC'd a little past 5870 clocks and I can run all my games, 2xaa, 16xAF, high quality textures and all settings in game to high or ultra if available and v-sync, with no hiccups. Get the 5850, if it is a reference card, you can up voltage and OC very well. If its not a reference card, get the 5870 if you can.
