More temp monitoring questions...
If I was using leadtek 6800 ultras, where would mount a temp probe (the metal tape down tab kind)?
Also, what is a reliable temp for an ultra at load?
Finally, the same question for a 74gb raptor (temp monitor taped to spindle...right?)

Maybe a stupid question, but why don't you just use the internal temp monitoring for GPU temps with that GPU and the Nvidia drivers?
 
I was in the same situation with a 6600GT. I mounted my temp probe right next to the core. I compared the nvidia temps to my fan controllers temps and its less than 1c off.

The reason I did it was to check core temps while im playing in game, instead of having to alt-tab then check nvidia properties.

also not sure how difference in temps you will see, the 6600gt idles around 30c and at full load after 2 hrs the max its reached is 53c. This is stock speed with stock cooling, I did use AS5 on the core though.
 
Would I therefore be only able to do that by removing the entire heatsink and remounting it?
Could you be more specific...picture/walkthrough?

hmmm I can try to get up some pics not sure. I had to take off the heatsink/fan in order to do this though. Once the HS/Fan is off it is really easy. The chip itself (mine atleast) looks like a k7/p3 chip on the board. So right next to I put the therm with the tape that came with my fan controller. Used the arctic solvent 2 step remover, then used some AS5 and put the HS/Fan back on. Put it all back together and its good to go!

Also as far as the HD's, you could set the therm on the bottom in the center (should see a silver portion). I was kind of skeptical on this as I wasn't sure so I googled it and found some reviews with SS's that showed exactly where to put it.
 
It should be included in the nvidia drivers. Go to display properties and then Settings tab, click the advanced button and then click the 6600GT tab. You should see temp monitoring as one of the options in the box that pops up on the left of the display properties box. Seems accurate to me from what I can tell.

here is a link to download Coolbits 2.0 from. This unlocks any hidden features of your Nvidia card, temp,speeds,.... Just install it and restart, open Nvdia display settings, eh voila. :eek:
