Hi, i own a GTX 560 TI and i am trying to configure my pc setup for the most performance while keeping my pc inaudible.

Iv got everything setup great except for the graphics card. With the help of an online calculator iv reduced my cpu from 95 TDP to 60 TDP and id like to be able to know the same about my gpu.

At stock the GTX 560 TI is 170 TDP, is there an online calculator i can use too see how much difference the clock settings and voltages are making to the card or is there an equation i can use to work it out myself.

It's only 170W TDP at max. I wouldn't advise cutting the voltage substantially on your graphics card, they aren't as tolerant as CPUs, I don't think you'll shave much off. If you wanted that level of performance for a lower TDP, you should have gone with the more efficient card (HD6870 is only 150W for the same sort of performance). Realistically, the real factor for graphics card noise is the cooler, not the TDP. Likewise, you can run a CPU fanless (so no noise at all) if you put a big enough cooler on it.
 
Iv got it running at 0.975 volts at load which is down quite a bit from its stock 1.0625 and i use a Noiseblocker m12-s1, 8dB fan on it.

Switching to AMD is not an option as im happy with this card and wouldn't want to lose physX, game profiles etc etc. The last AMD card i owned was the HD5770 and it was pure shit, definitely the worst card iv ever owned. It will be a long time before i try another AMD card.

Its more out of curriosity that id like to know its TDP but if anybody knows then please tell me :)
 
There was nothing particularly wrong with the HD5770 as a card, sounds like you either had a faulty one or didn't install the software properly. Either way, while GPUs aren't exactly ohmic, you can get a rough idea by applying (V2/V1)^2 as the comparative difference. Your new voltage is 91.76% of the old voltage, so should lead to roughly 84.20% of the power consumption. That makes the TDP an estimated 143W.
 
I take it you didnt have one :p honestly the HD5770 was just pure shit. Far larger than it needed to be, stock fan was unbearably loud, hot as hell, would cause errors when run at stock speeds ( i could overclock the core but needed to reduce the ram speed and that was a common problem) just a terrible card that made me turn to the green side.

But anyway thanks for the equation. Unfortunately it doesn't take into account clock speeds etc but i il use it as a rough guide.

I didn't personally, but I know people who have them, there's nothing wrong with them. For their performance level they're compact, they don't run particularly hot, nor are they particularly loud!
All of what you have said are trademark signs of a faulty card. No graphics card in the last several years has ever had to be underclocked manually to not cause errors. You will only ever encounter such a scenario if you have a faulty card. One faulty card that you happened to end up with is insufficient to tarnish the reputation of even that specific version of the HD5770, never mind the HD5770 itself as a card, let alone AMD as a whole. You probably already know this. Most people who have such negative opinions about a brand already disliked the company before they even bought the product, and loaded their opinion to suit. I don't like nvidia much, I think their manufacturing quality leaves a lot to be desired and the corporate approach is despicable, yet if I had a card of theirs that crashed unless I underclocked it, I'd know it was just a faulty card, and not indicative of a bad product range.

Worse still try and find aftermarket coolers for it, they didn't exist at the time.

I liked ATI/AMD and have owned many of their cards however the last 2 i had where just shit. I dont know if they were making them cheaper or what but for me the 4000 and 5000 series where shit and im glad i now have decent cards.

But anyway this was about TDP not AMD/NVIDIA :D

Though the Voltage calc above doesn't seem to account for the RAM taking up anywhere from 10-50 (40 is about the min for a 256bit GDDR5 bus, so far) Watts on its own.
 
I love hating on that card, its crap lol

Excellent il just deduct 40 tdp for the ram and that will do. Im surprised that there's nothing online like the cpu and psu watt calculators for graphics cards, as they are they biggest power draw for most systems.
 
In that sort of environment, are you surprised it was a bit noisy? Put any 100W+ card in a box like that and expect it to be quiet... I don't think so.
Sorry, but as much as this thread's been deviated by this, the 'HD4 and HD5 series were crap' argument is completely baseless (and false). You had one faulty card that crashed. The card wasn't dead silent, so therefore three entire years worth of products are supposed to be bad because of it. This doesn't sound odd to you?
 
Its just my opinion, the cards i had just left me feeling that their quality control was going down hill but anyway you can have high end gpu's in smallish cases no problem.

Heres my CASE its the TJ08-E which i suppose could be classified as a small case, yet its the largest iv ever owned. The gpu has got an 8dB fan on it so its pretty quiet. Just go to the SFF section and you'll see loads of high end gpu's in small cases, some of which have aftermarket coolers etc to keep them quiet.

I dont know how loud the stock cooler was on the HD5770 but at 100% it was louder than any gpu id heard before (it was unbearable and must have been close to if not over 40dB). My passive HD4670 was overheating and sapphire said to stick a fan on it. LOL best advice ever. No can you tell us the environment its in, how can we help, the card may be faulty but you could try this, etc just stick a fan on it.

But anyway we are getting side tracked again :p
 
Yup, and there was no problem, other than noise, which is a given in such environments. SPCR are extremely sensitive to noise (good on them, I wish more sites were), and that is the only reason they abandoned use of the card. There's no such thing as an 8dB fan, nothing can detect levels that low, and fans certainly wouldn't be of any use producing such little noise. The HD5770 has the same 5000rpm fan that has been fitted to stock AMDs for years. It's massively loud at 100% but it's never needed. The highest you would ever use is about 1800-2000rpm, which is abut the speed SPCR reported when they stopped using the card for noise. The extra room is only there for emergencies, if the card's airflow is blocked, or if it has been massively overclocked.
Sapphire can't make cards for crap anyway, especially not passive ones. Your GTX560Ti is neither silent, nor fanless, yet you don't seem to have the same disdain for it as AMD.
The only reason I make a big deal of this is that people who hold these opinions often push them to other people as advice, and it's one thing to have an opinion, but opinion is not fact. Fact is, there's nothing wrong with AMD in general. nvidia have produced plenty of extremely loud and hot cards in their time, such as the GTX470 and GTX480. Starve any card of airflow and it gets noisy as the fan has to work harder. The card still works, it's just noisier. Same of any card, be it AMD or nvidia.

And dont label Sapphire as crap that's like labeling AMD as crap ;). But anyway i was just voicing my opinion on why I wouldn't buy an AMD card as you had suggested a HD6870. It was just to make clear that i didnt want an AMD card as im happy with the card i have and now prefer NVIDIA over AMD as they are better suited to me.

I just wanted to lower its TDP lol
 
Not really, Sapphire make a load of reference cards, and they're fine - because they're reference. Just take a close look at Sapphire's non-reference cards, the build quality is shocking.
