When I install my EVGA 9800GX2 my computer stops booting up. It boots fine with my other video card however (a Radeon HD3450). I am currently using a: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply.

My question is - the 9800gx2 came with 2 power adapters I misplaced a 6 pin to 6 pin and 8 pin to 8 pin so I have been using the two PCI-E cables that came with the PSU instead, do you think I need the adapters?

Thanks for your time.

Those look like just extenders to me. No need for those cables.

Edit: Found the problem - bad motherboard? Swapped it out with another and the system is running fine. Not sure why the first works with the lower end gpu but not the 9800gx2, either way I'm just glad to have my rig up and running :D

Any thoughts on why it would stop booting with the 9800gx2 in that case?

Thanks again for the help.

Either your GPU is defective or that PSU is not enough. Both are likely options.
