GPU Lap Dance

Well it all started here

and being real bored I decided to lap my GPU
Taped off and covered the card, then took some 400 paper and sanded till I saw that beautiful copper(guess I voided the warranty )
cleaned the mess up with 91% alcohol(antimicrobial) schmeered Arctic 3 on, back on went the Zalman heatpipe(with fan),shoved the SOB back in the slot, turned on the comp and ......nothing crap.

Took 3 times before I realized that I forgot to hook up the monitor(make note to self, self idot)plugged in the monitor and all is as it should be

while its to early to really tell, intial results show around 4C drop in temps and higher potential for ovclk.

Just can't kill the sucker!
Maybe I should flash to 5950 bios?

why not just remove the heatspreader instend of lapping it

I lapped and threw a lightweight AL Socket A cooler on mine...

I didnt get any more OC'ing headroom, but I'm gonna try the same heatsink on there after I take the heatspreader off... maybe that'll help MORE...

Time for a volt mod...

Isn't 400grit a bit coarse? I go to at least till 1500 and that's when I'm feeling lazy.

Thats what got me started!!

I'm not sure the temps would go much lower, this zally HeatPipe/fan and all that i've done so far are showing temps around 25c lower than stock on an ovclk. Without ram sinks.
Maybe when I stop bein a miserable lazy slob I'll try both ur ideas

any ideas on how to remove heatspreader and once it is off does the exposed core have the same appearence as an AMD chip?
