GPU folding slows after 30 seconds...?

I have tried both recommended drivers and get the same results. After i start it, it will run fine for exactly 30 seconds and then it slows to a crawl. For the first 30 seconds the graphic spins rather quickly and reports 59.97 iter/sec (4hours ETA)but then it slows down to 1.0 iter/sec (11 days ETA). :( If i move my mouse over the window it will speed up again, but only for 30 seconds. I have seen it add points to my folding, but at a very slow rate and not many points for the WU. I

Any ideas whats going on here?

Thanks in advance!

don´t use the "display" mode under GPU2, is still corrupted

so just let it open and run in the systray then? When i do that it seem to always report "Attempting to get work packet" when i put my mouse over it...is that normal??

well that happens when it starts, that goes away after some minutes, to something like this: "F@H: Working 0/25000"

you can check the progress, right clicking on the icon -> Status -> Log File -> and then scroll down, and check the time, see if its working after a couple of minutes :)

Yes, with some configurations the display mode is corrupted and you get that message. Use fahmon or fahspy to monitor the client.

As the only nvidia gpu work server has been down for approx ten hours then yes ......... :p
Don´t use the "display" mode under GPU2 as its still borked.
Just use FahMon or FahSpy to track the client and leave the client display minimized.

Luck ......... :D

I'll give that a try. Thanks eveyone!

One more question, will interfer with folding with my CPU?

Simple Answer: Don't use the display mode, its broken!

Download F@HMon: http://fahmon.net/download.html

Then point it to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Folding@home-gpu

You can also right click on the Tray Icon, Status, Log file & scroll to the bottom to see actual latest progress.

the display mode is stable for me on vista64 but it does very strange things, like the protien graphics keep getting smaller until it is completely gone from the screen.

i find that the FAHmon program people are recommending is working very good,

i hope they fix the display window, i think it looks cool

GPU is up and running, however it seem that my CPU folding has slowed...do they hinder each other?

if u are running XP then yes, the GPU2 client takes over one core

on Vista, the GPU tends to take 15-20% of one core....on XP, it seems to take 100% of one core, so yes it would in theory slow down any CPU folding

you should still be able to run like 5.03 (non SMP client) with out a hit, I would think.

Actually the GPU client locks to 1 core (sneaks a bit from another but not much) so on a quad you can run an smp client and lock it to the two unused cores, in my case 0 and 1.

Also, if you opened the pretty but broken and useless visual display the client seems to stay slow, I rebooted and it all came back to normal.

With an over clocking tool you can set the pixel shaders pretty high and it makes a huge difference in performance. The other GPU over clocks don't seem to do as much.

Luck;)

10-15% on Vista? I've checked mine at multiple random times and have never seen it above 5% in Vista. It usually hovers between 3 and 5% leaving 4 almost completely free cores for me to run SMP on.

What kind of production are you getting from the GPU client, though? In XP, I use SMP Seesaw Pro to lock the GPU client to one core to get the most out of it. With this setup, I'm able to get 5000+ PPD out of my 8800GT. If I don't lock it to a core, the PPD goes down to around 4300-4500 PPD as the SMP client starts stealing some cycles from it but doesn't make up the difference in points.

I currently have the GPU client, a single SMP client and a console client running on the system for a total of around 7300 PPD out of the machine in my sig. If VMWare server would properly install on this XP install, I would be getting better PPD since I could pull the 2605 work units instead of the really crappy 2665s. If I was able to do that, I would probably get 7700 PPD out of this machine.

According to FaHMon, I'm getting right around 6000PPD. I've also selected the 'slightly higher priority' option with the GPU client and it keeps itself locked to one core anyway. I'm getting 8700+PPD out of the system right now with the GPU and one SMP with a 2653 unit right now. I'm pretty satisfied with it.
