Hello, I'm picking parts for a friend, he's currently on an FX 8320 + R9 270X and wants to upgrade. I was almost ready to give him the greenlight, but today Asus introduced a pretty hefty cashback on Skylake/Kabylake + Z170/Z270 motherboards, which shook things up a bit.

I've ended up with three different options in his budget of 16 500 Kč (~610 €). He'll be mainly gaming at 1080p, with maybe some light office work on the side - nothing that would trouble any modern CPU. Also I think it unlikely that he'll want to upgrade for the next 3 or 4 years aside from maybe a GPU.

To preface - he has a Seasonic M620W PSU and a CM N400 case. I'll be giving him a NH-U12P SE2 cooler either way, since I don't use it anymore and his current Gellid doesn't have AM4 support, in case we'll go with Ryzen in the end.

    The options then:

    1) AMD
    • AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 6599 Kč
    • Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Red 8GB DDR4 2666 - 1877 Kč
    • GIGABYTE Radeon RX 570 AORUS, 4GB GDDR5 - 5096 Kč
    • MSI B350 TOMAHAWK - AMD B350 - 2789 Kč
    Total - 16 361 Kč

    2) i5 + 580/1060
    • Intel Core i5-6600K - 5800 Kč
    • Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Red 8GB DDR4 2666 - 1877 Kč
    • ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING - 3599 Kč
    • MSI Radeon RX 580 GAMING X 8G, 8GB GDDR5 - 7443 Kč
    Total - 18 842 - 2700 cashback = 16 142 Kč

    3) i7 + 570
    • Intel Core i5-6700K - 8800 Kč
    • Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Red 8GB DDR4 2666 - 1877 Kč
    • ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING - 3599 Kč
    • GIGABYTE Radeon RX 570 AORUS, 4GB GDDR5 - 5096 Kč
    Total - 19 372 - 2970 cashback = 16 402 Kč

So which option would you pick?

I'd go three, unless you'll be doing a ton of video encoding.
