Gothic HD (Gothic Remake)

Played this a bunch yesterday... Aside from the lock picking it's been a very good time so far.. It's for sure challenging and I am getting my ass kicked regularly, I have to just run away from mobs a lot rn.. spamming F5. I played all day yesterday from 2pm until 2am.. running at 3440x1440 settings "gothic" (there's one setting higher but the trade off didn't seem worth it) with dlss 4.5 and it's running very smoothly.. I had one crash (CTD) also. Running geforce 610.47 drivers. I kind of like that the game makes you earn everything.. but the lock picking is fucking insane lol. sorta getting the hang of that now. Be sure to have lots of lock picks while you're figuring that out.

It sure is pretty and I like the music a lot. I am getting major TW3 vibes from this one with the music and visuals.. also reminds me of some areas of guild wars, in a good way.

Gothic devs are 'monitoring the sentiment about lockpicking,' promise a PC patch for crashes by Monday

Developer Alkimia published a community blog on Steam yesterday addressing the lockpicking issue:

"We are monitoring the sentiment about lockpicking which seems very mixed; we cannot stress enough how much easier this gets when you start adding skill points into it," the post said..."We will ofc continue to monitor and communicate as soon as we have solutions or timelines for when fixes will be deployed"...the post also states that some crash bugs are being worked on with a fix due by Monday...

I did pick a bunch of locks today but wow.. it's nuts. It is rewarding once you solve it, though lol!

Found this too:

Sounds like the discourse from the gunplay in Fallout 3. You mean you need to invest skill points to get better at a skill in a RPG? No way...

having never played the original games, i jumped in today.
BRUTAL start to a game, let me tell you. you are a nobody, and the world lets you feel that at every turn.
but it gets easier, and if you stick to it, its very rewarding so far.

except for the lockpicking mechanic, that can go get fucked. i modded it out. its THE worst puzzle of every open world RPG, and they decided to make a mechanic you use every 5-10mins that. insane design decision.

Looks interesting. Never played the original series. Most likely I'll wait until it's $14.99 or cheaper. I'll bet they'll have quite a few bug fixes and updates.

Yeah until I mastered at lock picking it sucked and I was pissed about it.. but it doesn’t phase me any more.. but damn at the beginning I got blocked in the storyline needing to pick a chest and I was at it for an hour.. i was like WTF is this shit ugh.

It’s a wonderful game though and the best looking UE5 game I’ve played so far.

i think most of the "jank" will be a mainstay unfortunately. i couldnt progress in chapter 4 for example, cause all the factions were mad at me. had to do a few convoluted steps i had to google to get back on track.

doesnt change that its a fantastic experience and game though.

IKR? it's pretty good... I haven't gotten this into a game for so long... hit the next button ... hit the next button.. oh it's 3am?

maybe not for all but it was a welcome breath of fresh air to me personally... man that UE5 engine was the right choice. Looks fantastic. I missed playing all of the originals so this is pretty special.
